Editor’s note: For the past year scholars James Lindsay, Helen Pluckrose, and Peter Boghossian have sent fake papers to various academic journals which they describe as specialising in activism or “grievance studies.” Their stated mission has been to expose how easy it is to get “absurdities and morally fashionable political ideas published as legitimate academic research.”

To date, their project has been successful: seven papers have passed through peer review and have been published, including a 3000 word excerpt of Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf, rewritten in the language of Intersectionality theory and published in the Gender Studies journal Affilia.

“Testimonials”???? Hardly.....the letters are the kind of crap that pretends to be thoughtful. Instead of just saying the trio did a wonderful job of exposing the Emperor and his ‘new clothes” each professors runs on and on with drivel to show how smart they are. That is the core problem

The idea that philosophers have anything other than gobbledygook to add to any subject is specious. Made up vocabulary and cynical world views have characterized such writings since the Renaissance.

I see three cheers for the clever authors. I particularly enjoyed the hubris of slipping in a large chunk of Mein Kampf into one of the papers

The hard science side used to have an entire journal devoted to such nonsense.....The Journal of Irreproducible Results. Still one of my favorite reads

I've viewed the first 1:10 of the full podcast, enjoyed it immensely, these are the academics who have spent recent years concocting buzzword-laden papers (a couple were adapted from Hitler's Mein Kampf) and gotten them published. They describe different ways in which the anonymous referees sent them back for revision to make them even crazier. At the time these were made, Boghossian was (maybe stilll is) facing charges of Title IX violations for commenting on a protected class, and those making the charges won't tell him which one, or give him a list of protected classes.
