I have been losing weight since May 27 due to the fact that I wanted to go on the Steve Kane Radio Show (longest running radio show in Florida) Caribbean Cruise last June. However, my wife told me I weighed too much and that she was scared I could eat myself to death with all that food aboard ship. She also stated that the only way I could go on the cruise next year would be to lose a hundred pounds.
The first month of attempting to eat low carbs I only lost about 5 pounds due to the fact that my carb cravings caused me to relapse as usual, to snack on crackers and other carb snacks. However, On July 2 due to hearing a new sponsor on the Steve Kane show (BTW, Steve Kane and his co-host Brian Craig, were the FIRST radio hosts in the country to come out in full support of Trump in 2015), I went to Save A Lot Nutrition Center and asked if they sold any appetite suppressants. The recommended Crave Stop.
I began taking Crave Stop the next days and over the next 3 or 4 days I didn't notice any real diminution in my appetite. However, I noticed that I had lost my carb cravings. I thought it might be temporary but by the end of the month, and with pounds shedding off, I continued to have no carb cravings.
This lack of carb cravings meant that I could go to buffet restaurants and eat AROUND the carbs which I did at least 6 times during the summer. I went to an Argentinian buffet twice, a seafood buffet twice, a brunch buffet once, and another buffet. In addition I used some creativity to develop other methods to lose weight such as using technology. For example, when I listen to Rush or Sean on my Echo Dot, I walk for stretches of at least an hour inside my house (A/C) so I do at least 1000 steps per day. I also do the same with my audible books. I call this my no-exercise exercises since it feels more like listening to the radio or reading than exercising (i.e. not boring).
On August 17 there was a gathering of Steve Kane Show fans at Sav A Lot nutrition Center in Margate, Florida during which time there was a weigh-in for me (which is on the YouTub channel). The result was that my weight dropped from 320 pounds on May 27 to 289 pounds that day. A 31 pound loss.
The second weigh-in was also at Sav A Lot Nutrition Center on Friday, Sept. 28. It was recorded by Steve Kane Show co-host Brian Craig on Periscope as you can see here. So what was my weight loss from August 17 to September 28? Well, watch the Periscope video above but I can tell you that I lost over half the weight I need to go on the next Steve Kane Show (1400 AM WWNN Radio 6 to 9 AM EDT, available on iHeart).
Oh, and right after the weigh-in I went to a Brazilian buffet for lunch. Great meat!
It sounds a lot like you’re on the Keto diet or maybe a hybrid of it with that low of a per day carb intake.
Did you find yourself going into Ketosis? I’ve done it and it feels like I have an allergy or a cold for a number of days until my body transitioned into being a fat burner rather than a carb/sugar burner.
I shied away from the Keto diet but I think it would be okay for a while then back to a more conventional pyramid of foods which would mean out of ketosis and back into carb burning. I believe there’s a balance to be found somewhere in there. The thing about Keto is it’s a high fat diet but it turns your body into a fat burner so logic tells me the high fat diet is to give the body instant burnable energy while also burning the stored energy (fat). The brown belly fat is the worst they say so the more of that we can get rid of the better.
Good for you PJ!!
My husband and I have been on a low-carb diet for over a year. Back in May I found that my blood pressure was extremely high, and my older sister passed away.
I decided to do 2 miles a day on the treadmill. Today was consecutive day #115.
My balance is good, which was a problem prior to this regimen. I’m also doing some weight-work.
Keep up the good work!
Wow...great! I’ve found when I crave carbs if I eat fat instead I am much better off.
I am also planning on taking up skin diving again since before I was like a blimp trying to go underwater. A few pounds more and I will be buying an inflatable kayak and go spearfishing among the small mangrove islands off the Florida Keys. I would love to take up kite surfing. Before I was definitely much too heavy for that so that is also a possibility.
Congrats to you! What does the Crave Stop contain?
Sometimes if I eat something fatty (like a few walnuts), seems like it will stop a sugar craving.
One thing I do that helps are those public weigh-ins. Plus I estimate in my head on about how much I want to weigh on certain days in the calendar. For example I have all the Mondays mapped out until the next time I publicly reveal my weight on Friday, November 9. For each Monday until I reach that date, I have a certain weight amount in my mind. Sometimes I reach those projected numbers and sometimes not quite but the general weight continues to drop.
Congratulations.
I’ll look at crave stop.
Food craving is still a big problem.
Congrats!!
Keto diet here (no carbs - no sugar) since late April.
217.8 at the start (down from 238.4), just now weighed in at 189.8 with t-shirt, shorts and underdrawers on before my shower.
Keep up the good work!!
Crave Stop contains chromium but it also has InSea2 which is a proprietary composition which I guess is unique to Crave Stop.
The role of dietary fiber is getting a whole lot of attention in both medical and nutrition research. It’s the ‘pre-biotic’ on which pro-biotics feed to do their magic. And it seems like magic when you learn that around 70% of our immune system is generated by molecules produced by the microbiome in the gut.
Indigestible dietary fiber plays that role, and if you’re limiting carbs you don’t want to be eliminating dietary fiber as well. Avoiding or even eliminating simple carbs is probably a fine idea, even a necessary idea if you’re dealing with high blood sugar. But avoiding complex carbs isn’t wise. In fact long term I’d say it’s a very bad idea.
Some age related illnesses could be worsened by chronic low grade inflammation. Animal proteins and fats are known to induce an inflammatory response. Crohn’s, IBS, some forms of arthritis may connected to this. And possibly hypertension. By contrast some food plants are known to have anti-inflammatory properties. Plants with phytochemicals. And the (inedible) kale plant among other cruciferous vegetables.
yeah but while that’s in Kroger, WalMart etc its not on a cruise ship...
You should check out OMAD on YouTube, One Meal a Day:
I first eased into just 2 meals per day by skipping breakfast, did that for about a month or so.
Then I went OMAD, eating only dinner at about 5 pm, suffered a little in the beginning but now I’ve fully adjusted.
I’m 6 ft 2 inch, but have gone from 273 to 208, still going down.
I’ll bet I can get to 190, my college weight.
Get a fitbit. I love mine. Get the expensive one too - it’s actually a great tool to actually measure not only steps, but other vitals throughout the day.
We’ll be fitbit buddies !
While weight wasn’t an issue, my overall health was. I went from 130 to 180 in a year. I’m 5’6” and my heart was showing signs of giving out. BP went from 120/80 to 240/160 in a week. I almost had a stroke.
After some stumbling I’m down to 160 but I’m not really going much farther down the scale.. instead I got a bowflex and work that thing like a cheap whore twice a day.
I’ve got abs back though, a chest and arms. I’m a mesomorph body type and I have NEVER had a physique like this. My arms went from 15 inches to 22 inches. Chest from 30 to 37. Oh, and I quit smoking.
It’s been 9 months for that result so far. I’ve been thinking of documenting my progress some way too. Maybe private youtube videos or something.
Forgot:
Fermenting my own Kombucha with probiotics has helped me hugely, I think.
Get some 2 or 3 of those orange home depot buckets. Get a SCOBY off of Ebay and some bulk black english tea and sugar —the organism eats the sugar to ferment.
There are tons of YouTube vids of how to do it, here is the nutshell:
Brew super strong black tea and make it so sweet it’ll make your eyes cross. Put it in the clean orange HD bucket, put the SCOBY in that tea, then cover the bucket top with a towel and put it up in a dark closet for 2.5 weeks.
Ready to drink, or you can do a secondary ferment for a week or so by adding 15% juice of some kind to that, then give it another week.
U can use any type of juice and it’s almost free, screw that $5 per bottle crap from Whole Foods.
Drinking something cheap, fizzy and acidic somehow helped me HUGELY to lose weight (most people use Bragg’s apple cider vinegar).
You can add ginger, or whatever, get creative.
That Silk chocolate “milk” I find delicious - It can’t be good for you it tastes to good.
Just a tip on the buckets. They make food-safe buckets that don’t allow the leaching of chemicals from the plastic buckets.
I should say the regular or standard plastic buckets.
Hmm. I do think I used to take chromium for some reason.
I’m very pleased for you, and I hope you enjoy improved health and many enjoyable activities for years to come.
PJ, I’ve had great luck with the alkaline diet. It cuts your sugar cravings naturally. There are lists of alkaline foods (as opposed to acid-producing foods) at many sites on the web. You have to use a certain amount of discipline, like grabbing the celery sticks when you want something to chew on, but it’s satisfying after you taper off your food addictions in the first couple of weeks.
