The White House Blue Room is getting a new old look.
Melania Trump has announced the restoration of a collection of furniture made for the White House by Frenchman Pierre-Antoine Bellange. The first lady says a team of curators has spent more than a decade restoring the furniture. The Committee for the Preservation of the White House approved the restoration project.
President James Monroe bought the Bellange suite in 1817. Almost all of it had been auctioned off in 1859....

I don’t recall any other First Ladies making a public announcement about furniture restorations about to begin. One usually just presumes it happens at the pleasure of the First Couple. Well, it’s nice to hear from her at all. She doesn’t make a lot of public announcements, and I’m fine with that.
Melania was already an accomplished woman before Nov. 2016.
Both she and the president make it look fun and easy, but being in the White House is a very demanding lifestyle.

No, the restoration is done after 10 years of painstaking work and will soon be furnishing the Blue Room in the White House. Some are original and some are reproductions, all acquired by Jackie Kennedy.

Oh, I see. So this restoration had been going on at some level for the past few years. I do recall the last few years of the Obama Administration, that much of the White House was surrounded by scaffolding. I suppose changes have to be done gradually, since the building will continue being in use during that time.
Melania Trump is a class act, with genuine respect for the history and dignity of the White House. I expect that will be generally recognized when the histories of the Trump administration are written. She will be favorably compared to Jackie Kennedy.

What he means is, if you scroll through the pictures in the WTOP web page, the first one shows Melania in a very nice pose, but then you get four of the Obamas and one of Biden. All of the Obama photos have gushing captions (it’s WTOP, so no surprise).
Later on, there’s a single photo of Trump in the Blue Room talking about his health care initiatives. Nevertheless, The WTOP editors couldn’t resist throwing in the following snarky comment in the caption: “A study by a nonpartisan group says the Trump administration’s own actions are triggering double-digit premium increases on individual health insurance policies purchased by millions of consumers.”
