MSNBC Finds McCain’s ‘Biggest Political Mistake’: Sarah Palin
Newsbusters ^ | August 27, 2018 | Kyle Drennen

Posted on 08/27/2018 7:23:25 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Amid glowing tributes to the life and career of Arizona Senator John McCain on Monday, MSNBC took time to use the Republican lawmaker’s passing to trash his 2008 vice presidential running mate Sarah Palin, labeling McCain’s selection of the then-Alaska governor as his “biggest political mistake.”

“McCain made some controversial decisions, some much-criticized decisions. One of those decisions was who he chose to run with in 2008, Sarah Palin,” proclaimed anchor Katy Tur early in the 2:00 p.m. ET hour. She then recited a column from Washington Post Associate Editor David Ignatius making that case:

The anti-Washington rage embodied by Palin came back to haunt McCain, in the person of President Trump. My guess is McCain was one of the many millions of decent Republicans and Democrats who could never imagine that the GOP and then the American electorate (or at least the Electoral College) would actually vote for someone with such low moral character.

Tur lamented: “I guess there are some out there who could argue that the choosing of Palin and legitimizing that voice, legitimizing that brand of politics, that reality show brand of politics, you could draw a straight line from that to the election of Donald Trump.”

Appearing on the program, Ignatius doubled down: “I think that choice of Sarah Palin was probably the biggest political mistake that John McCain made in his career.”

He continued: “There is an insurgency in the Republican Party. Sarah Palin was an early example of it, this kind of, you know, unprepared in the normal sense ex-governor of Alaska.... It was a poor choice. She was so unprepared for the office.” Of course Sarah Palin was the current governor of Alaska when McCain selected her as his running mate.

Ignatius concluded: “But I think it shows that McCain saw something changing in his party, this party that would spawn the Tea Party movement that really existed to trash Washington, the world that John McCain grew up in.”

Leave it to MSNBC and The Washington Post to use the death of one politician to denigrate another.

Here is a transcript of the August 27 exchange between Tur and Ignatius:

McInsane was the ultimate RINO. He LET Obama win. Let him. He never campaigned. When tried to, he made her quit.

Sarah is the ONLY reason I held my nose and voted for McCain.

Tell me there weren’t millions more just like me...

“But truth be told, he was such a TERRIBLE candidate, there was no running mate who could have salvaged him or the total wreck of his campaign.”

But Joe Lieberman would’ve done the job of TEN Sarahs!

*SNORT*

I missed what Sarah’s statement was. I’m surprised the media didn’t demand that she hold a presser and read a long sorrowful statement for this pretend “statesman”.

He never wanted to be President, he only wanted to "run". He would not have been up to the job thankfully.

I still partially have my McCain/Palin sign.
The McCain part was cut away and used many years ago under a older car that leaked oil.
Still have the Palin part kept stored safely away.

Sarah inspired a whole geneation of Young Conservatives Diana.

I remember working the campaign. McCain was the biggest drag ever. Sarah was simply infectious.

My thought was the same. Sarah Palin was the only thing that made that ticket worthwhile.

Mention the name McCain and the name Sarah Palin instantly pops into the minds of people, especially those who were alive back then. Her conservative views, political drive, and good looks damn near won the election for him.

Not bad when most people can’t remember the names of past presidential nominees much less who were their running mates. OTOH, Millennials, Snowflakes, and the worst of the public educated people can’t even remember the name of a single VPOTUS. Some still think Ronald McDonald was one.

McCain managed to lose an election by snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. McCain you fool! You pi$$ed away a great opportunity. Like Joe Palooka, you could have been the champ.

The dust bin of history is filled with people like McCain. In a hundred years, he will probably not be remembered even if they erect a statue or name a street after him. Maybe someone will invent an unsinkable aircraft carrier and name it in his honor but I doubt it would be around for more than a hundred years.

So lets praise him for the good times he gave us and get back on the road to MAGA.

While Palin has her flaws, she was also the only reason McCain rallies in 2008 didn’t like like Tim Kaine rallies in 2016.

I am not going to join in with the McCain bashing, there is no need to, he is gone.

However, if the MSM thinks Palin was his biggest mistake, then it’s just more evidence of why no one trusts them.

McCain’s biggest mistake was in conspiring against the Republican Party in order to elect an usurper to the Oval Office.

The ONLY good thing McCain did during his poorly-run presidential bid was to choose Sarah.

She has common sense, she’s politically smart, she knows what it means to be a Conservative, and she brought LIFE to that otherwise boring campaign - and she was welcomed and loved by the base.

So he dispatched his henchmen to go about destroying her. He could have called them off at any time, so it was blatantly obvious he was involved.

And then he damaged himself further by endorsing his opponent. Yet they pretend not to have a clue about any of that and continue to blame Sarah.

I have nothing good to say about any of them, so I’ll just stop now.

Trump needed Pence in 2016 for legitimacy, and doesn’t need to harbor a self serving politician again in 2020. It isn’t traditional to change VP’s but he didn’t get here by being a traditional politician.

I used to like Pence but have since soured on him grasping ambitions and positioning himself to replace Trump before his time. In contrast to his complete silence on defending the president, Sarah would take the battle to the press at every opportunity.

As long as they run on Trump’s record he can run with a scarecrow and still win.

Pence has been fully vetted, the vile Rats can’t lay a glove on him. I like that kind of predictability. Yes, Trump just needs to run on his outstanding record.
