More than a dozen hunger stones have been found in the Elbe River. The stones recorded low water levels dating back to the 1600s and warn of impending hardships.
Due to scorching temperatures, the water in the Czech river has dropped, revealing boulders that were once used to record low water levels.
The rocks are etched with dates going back to the 1600s the Maunder Minimum.
In centuries gone by, if you saw carved rocks emerge from the Elbe River you had a very tough time ahead of you.
They have reappeared once again this summer.

WHAT?!?!?!
You mean there were droughts in Europe BEFORE the combustion engine?!?!?!
And modern food distribution.
What a minute...1842, 1868 and 1921?
Probably predicting the famine in South Africa after the white farmers are kicked out.
Early - Mid-19th century: Dalton Minimum.
1921? Who knows
1921: Post world war on losing side, Weimar Republic economy, influenza kills millions.
The new solar minimum we are about to enter may be the reality check needed for the American left. Example: coal is good again.
Looks like its time to make some stone soup! :-)
“1921 May have had starvation due to end of WWI and swine flu epidemic that decimated Europe”
True, but that wouldn’t have lowered the river enough to uncover the stone for carving the date.
The question wasnt was there a drought. The question was was there a famine
All true, but is there any correlation there with weather events?
Bad news. The current minimum solar activity that the Sun is experiencing is what it was doing during the Maunder Minimum.
On the bright side anyone there with a metal detector should be down along the newly exposed shores with metal detectors. Ancient cultures used to sacrifice valuable objects in streams, lakes, and rivers.
The weather in 1921 was not extreme.
“The question wasnt was there a drought. The question was was there a famine”
The stone is normally submerged in the river. You’re not going to be *able* to carve on it unless the water is low.
Again the question asked was there a famine!
One can have famine even with torrential rains
“Again the question asked was there a famine!”
There was a drought and famine in the Ukraine at the time. It’s possible that the flow of the Elbe in Czechoslovakia was affected.
The famine was man-made.
It was much exacerbated by the Soviets, but they were having a bad harvest at the time.
Do they gave George Soros written on them?
It always amazes me when “they” always correlate droughts with global warming. It is during the various types of ice ages (mini and otherwise) when the real droughts happen - what with all of the water locked up in the ice. Combine that with the cooler weather and the crops don’t fare too well.
