The brain is a soft mass of supporting tissues and nerves connected to the spinal cord. Some nerves in the brain go straight to the eyes, ears and other parts of the head. Other nerves connect the brain to other parts of the body through the spinal cord to control the personality, senses, and functions of the body from breathing to walking.Read more

The author might want to leave technical education writing to others...
“The brain in the back of the brain controls the balance, etc...”
“Cerebrum brain: The largest part of the brain is the brain.”

Oliver Sacks described our self balance as our sixth sense.

The labyrinthine of the inner ear.
Proprioception.
Our vision.

Those three elements in totality.

Dr. Sacks did treat(or investigated) the case of a woman who had no proprioception. Every time she closed her eyes she collapsed in a bundle.

Dehydration, even minimal can impact our sense of balance.

I was struck with the Nora-virus on the 1st of July or a C. diff., infection.

After the usual lower GI side effects, apparently, I got dehydrated. My sense of balance which is normally very good was impacted. When I tried to walk, I could not walk without bouncing off the walls.

Our FP returned to work on the 5th of July, and I saw him the next day. I had lost 10#’s in less than a week. I’m on one of the new blood thinners, which apparently impact our sense balance if we get dehydrated.. He told me to drink water and more water with no tea or coffee for a week until my weight came back.

Besides drinking more water, he advised me not to drive for a week, to minimize stairs unless I had hand rails to grip.

We had retrofitted our home a few years ago with a walking in Shower, a ramp to get in the house and hand rails on both sides of any stairs. We plan to be carried out feet first from the home we love versus some old folk home.

It took about 2 weeks to recover.

inner ear for one

but then try walking in a completely dark room to see the limitations of that (standing is one thing, moving is another)

apparently visual cues are highly important to quick reaction./compensation while moving
