Alex Jones conspiracy peddler, provocateur, Texan lost easy access to millions upon millions of followers this week when Facebook, YouTube, Apple and Spotify banned much, if not all, of his content.
Thinking of Jones empire built on provably false theories and predictably wrong predictions I wondered about those followers.
Who are they? What brings them to his pages? Why do they seem willing to accept fantasy and conjecture over fact? Do they, as Jones lawyers have suggested, think the whole thing is a bit for entertainment? Would they tell me a longtime member of the mainstream media? Would they just scream at me?
I went into this with the reality-based conclusion that the conspiracies Jones promotes dont hold up to the most basic scrutiny. Among them:
The 9/11 attack was an inside job by the U.S. government as a pretext for going to war.
The Sandy Hook school shooting was a hoax.
The true cause of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalias death was covered up.
The government uses weather weapons, including tornadoes, to murder people....

How is Jones different from, say, Jim Acosta?
About 90% connoisseurs of nuttiness, and 10% true believers?
Louis Farrakhan
Jones is his own worst enemy. He makes Beck look normal.
Why have any of us ever listened to Alex Jones? Because we need touchstones for the truth and sometimes listening to people like Savage, Levin, Jones and Rush gives you a bigger picture of what the Establishment is really doing.
Our ability to listen to all sides of an issue should NEVER be shut down or shamed.
Don’t forget, our Republic was founded upon giving ear and aegis to the “minority opinion”...
... (don’t tell the Left who turned the aegis of “minority opinion” into “minority group” and “minority group rights” which is a totally different thing!)
>>How is Jones different from, say, Jim Acosta?<<
Jones is much more honest. Jones is nuts. acosta is a liar.
Last time I checked Alex Jones had a bigger following than the Dallas Morning News.
Comical that they even have the audacity to print such rubbish.
Thanks for the chuckle.
>>He makes Beck look normal.<<
And THAT is saying something!
:)
“Why have any of us ever listened to Alex Jones?”
Never have. Don’t know why anyone would.
Because some people are retarded.
Same reason people listen to Art Bell.
Also, wasn’t Donald Trump on Alex Jones’ shows... and Roger Stone?
The fact that Andrew Breitbart hated Glenn Beck for stealing his stuff, and then Alex Jones for doing the same thing is also an interesting factor in this MSM Hegelian universe of half-truths peddled by corporate sponsored talk shows.
Alex Jones is backed by Time-Warner, last I checked.
A Jones was reported to have stated in divorce (?) court that he is a entertainer.
“I wondered about those followers. Who are they? What brings them to (their) pages? Why do they seem willing to accept fantasy and conjecture over fact?”
Good questions Mr. Tarrant! You might want to ask these questions of the people that “follow” CNN, ABC, CNBC, the DC Compost, the NY Slimes and all the other television, cable and newspaper outlets!
Donald Trump was on Alex Jones’ shows during the campaign and I believe I recall he said he was a frequent listener.
What in the world are you talking about?
Sometimes I listen to him. He’s more raw, honest but really not as crazy as people see him. The key words are “raw and honest”, which are lacking in today’s leftwing media.
Rush stated he was an entertainer, too.
I never pay attention to Alex Jones but that’s not the issue here. Freedom of the press is.
