Do you have any idea why these people did not put their children in a group home or seek any type of outside help?
I’ve seen video’s of parents with autistic children. I have seen videos of 8 year old kids in diapers and the kid is crying like a baby, having a meltdown in a room with no furniture. The parents are just besides themselves about to cry.
Is there nothing to help them? Or are they afraid they will be charged with child abuse and their other children will be taken from them?
My daughter founded a school for young autistic children. It is called Sweet Bay Magnolia Academy and is located on the Eastern Shore of MD in Stevensville. The program is based on goals set by the parents that allows these children to be integrated into the home environment. Now in its third year the school has been recognized by the Governor of Md. His wife is an ardent supporter. Yes. There is hope.
There is not much out there. With repeated hospitalizations and egregious behaviors, almost beyond imagination they can be put in group homes, staffed by foreigners who do not speak English
I think parents are afraid that their children will be abused, neglected, or medicated into a stupor in a group home or institution. Or maybe just feel terrified and abandoned.
And they might be right, sometimes. Love and despair at wit’s end.
