Mike Rowe says Americans are profoundly disconnected – here’s why
The Blaze ^ | July 30, 2018 | Carlos Garcia

Mike Rowe said that there is profound disconnection between Americans, and it’s this gap that drives the division in the angry discourse over politics.

‘Frustrated people are talking… past each other’

Rowe was responding to conservative commentator Ben Shapiro on his show about the widening gap between different classes of Americans.

“We’ve become slowly and inexorably and profoundly disconnected from a lot of very basic things that when I grew up, I was really connected to,” he explained, “like where my food comes from, and where my energy comes from.”

“A basic history, a basic curiosity, you know,” he continued, “the things that fundamentally allow us to assume a level of appreciation that in my view is the best way to bridge those gaps.”

“When we start to lose our appreciation for those things, the gap deepens,” he added.

“I think there’s great common sense that’s still alive and well in a lot of people,” Rowe explained, “and I think that as they look at the headlines, they’re frustrated, and to be fair I think that people on the coasts are coming it with their own bias. And they’re frustrated.”

“And so a lot of frustrated people are talking really loud, past each other, and a lot of truths are inconvenient for a lot of people,” he concluded. “And so it just gets noisy.”

I’m not a fan of this guy, sorry. To me, he’s like a sleek, slick, faintly oily version of the working-class guy even when he says the right thing.

I prefer the real thing. Which is why I talk to the guys who collect the garbage, mow the lawn and plumb my plumbing.

This guy should have been Labor Secretary or one of Trump's economic advisers. Rowe has what Americans of yesteryear called "horse sense."

Which one...Ben Shapiro, Mike Rowe, or Carlos Garcia?

The premise is actually an interesting one, and is related to this short video at PragerU:

The Strange Death of Comedy by Owen Benjamin

The Left, including the media and educational systems have done a very good job of divorcing people from their cultural anchors as Americans in order to be able to promote their corrosive, destructive, and divisive concept of 'multiculturalism'. They have gone out of the way to scrub a common history from their teachings of history and instead present diametrically opposed teachings that do not leave any room for a middle ground to be occupied peacefully by both sides.

So, I do believe...yes, we ARE disconnected from a common history. We are now people living in a land occupied by neighbors whose history is alien to us.

I disagree with Mr. Rowe on this issue.

The “divide” has been purposely created. Those on the left side of the divide are idiots that are incapable of relating cause to effect over time and/or have an emotional/psychological maturity retarded to an elementary school level.

There are, at present, at least two completely separate and incompatible countries called America. They can not co-exist. Separatism is a dead end because the left can not allow the existence of anything that refutes the left.

This will come to blood shed.

Ah, thanks for clarifying miss marmelstein. I am not familiar with him. I am going to have to educate myself. Thanks for the head’s up...I’ll try not to be too prejudiced in my discovery!

You can’t demonize the founding of our nation, the West and whites and expect harmony.

I’ve seen a lot of Mike Rowe & totally disagree with Miss Marmelstein’s take. He is a really interesting fellow, & I think you’ll enjoy the interview.

Well, you may disagree with me and that’s fine. I just find him fake-working man with his hands. Tucker Carlson gets all hot over him.

I couldn’t disagree with you more. I was a working class guy, a carpenter, and for my money Mike Rowe is very much the real thing. He just worked harder, and smarter, and took his commonsense work ethic to Hollywood and got himself in front of a camera.

I think I understand your point, and we both share the observation that you wrote: "...There are, at present, at least two completely separate and incompatible countries called America. They can not co-exist. Separatism is a dead end because the left can not allow the existence of anything that refutes the left..."

In my opinion, it didn't just "happen". It has been a deliberate effort on your their part to create this, because as you said, "the left can not allow the existence of anything that refutes the left."

That would be called "The Truth". And when the truth cannot be allowed to exist, it can only be successfully suppressed by force and violence. And even then.

I believe you are correct. The United States was in this same place once before, in the early 1860’s. Interestingly, that time was brought about by a very similer group of left leaning folk. The outcome was not good.

Mike Rowe would probably be the first to declare his lack of personal blue collar history. He is simply a broadcaster/entertainer that highlights and appreciates everyday Americans. Nothing more, nothing less. We need more people like Mike Rowe.

Well, that explains it.

I have no problem with people liking him but I immediately picked up on his lack of background (without knowing it). I love working-class men and most of them don’t have that slick demeanor. Which is probably why I like Tommy Robinson.

My point exactly in the post above. And this is something desired by the disciples of Saul Alinsky.

They don't WANT harmony. They WANT strife and pain. What did Alinsky say about problems: "...In the beginning the organizer's first job is to create the issues or problems..."

The last thing Alinskyites like Obama or Clinton want, is a solution to a problem. Their job is to tear the scab of something that looks like it might heal. They WANT things inflamed.

“In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is...in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.” ― Theodore Dalrymple
