With proper grooming, he could look like a self-possessed person. The photo of him looks like he slept in a jail cell and was woke up for the perp photo. It emphasized that he was in pretty bad shape. His mom must be embarrassed that he let himself look like a bum.

I saw some pictures of this (?) or of a similar incident. The banners were black stripes on a white background, with a black canton with white stars. There was a central horizontal yellow stripe. Since when did this become an icon variation of the US flag, worthy of respect? I would not have recognized this flag as a sign of respect for first responders; I might have taken (mistaken?) it for an offensive symbolic statement, the changed colors a denial of the red, white and blue tinctures of the US flag, the yellow stripe an accusation of cowardice. I might have reacted with outrage, and torn down the flags myself, even burning them as a statement of protest. Unless we *know* for a fact what the person who did this thought the meaning of the flags was, we can't say what his actions were intended to express. If he intended to show disrespect for police, firefighters and EMTs, that is reprehensible. But what if he thought the flags were unpatriotic and disrespectful?

Oh, and I wouldn't have recognized the alleged perp by comparing his mug shot with the surveillance photos. Are the authorities sure they have the right man? Or am I confused by two different sets of images from similar, but not the same, incidents?
