And then there were two. 63 games filled with drama, intrigue, set-piece goals and surprise results have determined our finalists: France and Croatia. There is a distinctly 1998 feel to this World Cup Final, evoking more than a few memories of the global finals which saw France emerge victorious on home soil two decades ago.
Vatreni will be out for revenge from their final four defeat against Les Bleus back in 1998, with the then debutants denied a place in a maiden Final by Lilian Thuram's only international goals. France will be hoping their captain in the Final that followed that semi-final victory just over 20 years ago is their good luck charm at the Luzhniki Stadium. Didier Deschamps could become only the third man - after Mario Zagallo and Franz Beckenbauer - to lift the Trophy as a player and coach, if he can replicate from the dugout the successful Final he had against A Seleção in 1998.

Happy World Cup FINAL Game Day! 🙂🏆👍
France 2 ...Croacia 1
( a slew of yellow cards)
I’ll say 2-2 at the end of ninety minutes, someone gets sent off, and it ends with penalties.
...and one head butt...
My money is on Croatia
Communist Kickball.
What time is the game EST? I was watching the different matches on FOX 53 the past month, 9 AM and early afternoon. Then sometimes a local U.S. Soccer match followed.
HRVATSKA!!!!!
11
I’m glad I’m nowhere near those two soon-to-burn nation’s.
Why would Croatia burn?
I’m allowing my heart to go with the theory that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. In other words I’m taking Croatia 2 to 1.
France is like an Elite All-Star team so where’s the fun in rooting for them? Plus the talking heads on Fox are all rooting for France, with the smarmy Alexi Lalas even going so far as saying France has the superior Midfield. What a dolt!
Everybody said France would beat Portugal in Euro 2016, in front of their home fans.
How did that work out?
Allez les bleus
FRANCE 2-1
what a great day, and two celebrations for the weekend, Bastille day and hopefully VICTORY on the pitch.
Could be a good day for both Serbia and Crotia. Croatia wins WC, and Djokovic wins Wimbledon.
Well, maybe not, but the record of these world cups isn’t very stellar postgame. Better to be safe than sorry.
Croatia is a pretty homogenous country. As long as there are no Serbs around, it should be pretty peaceful.
(At least the Serbs can celebrate Djokovic winning in Wimbledon again)
France will definitely burn, though.
