I am deeply sorry that John McCain is gravely ill. I have prayed for him. I will continue to do so.
But I have a question.
McCain has claimed throughout his political career, especially in recent years, that country first is his guiding principle. It was even his campaign slogan when he was the Republican nominee in 2008. At the time the emphasis in using the slogan was that he would do what was best for the country rather than what was best for this or that political party, and there is nothing wrong with that providing that what you think is best for the country really is. Im not sure thats always been true in the case of John McCain, but that can be a discussion for another day.
At present, because of his illness, he is generally not able to travel to Washington to participate in Senate votes. I am not his doctor and I am not in a position to tell him he has to travel if he is not well enough to do so. He decided to do so last summer for the ObamaCare vote, and once he got there he saved ObamaCare by voting thumbs-down on the so-called skinny repeal that wouldnt really have repealed much of ObamaCare at all.
Its easy to say that if he was well enough to do that, he should be well enough to travel to Washington for a Supreme Court confirmation vote. But its possible his condition has deteriorated in the course of a year and its no longer feasible for him to do so.
But about this country first thing: A Supreme Court confirmation vote is hugely important for the country. In the past McCain has been willing to vote to confirm conservative Justices, including Neil Gorsuch, and he has also been willing to confirm qualified nominees offered by Democratic presidents. There is nothing in his track record to suggest he should be expected to oppose any of the nominees were hearing are under consideration by President Trump.
Yet because the Senate has only 51 Republicans, and at least one of them may refuse to confirm anyone she thinks will not protect abortion rights, McCains presence or absence could mean the difference between confirming Trumps nominee or rejecting him or her.
If McCains illness prevents him from voting, and he really puts country first, then why is he hanging on to his Senate seat and possibly jeopardizing the success of this nomination? There is nothing stopping him from resigning and allowing the governor of Arizona from appointing a successor who is perfectly capable of going to Washington and participating in this and other votes.
McCain is 81 years old. Imminent death is enough of a consideration for him that hes supposedly given directives about who can and cannot attend his funeral. What is gained at this point by clinging to his Senate seat but not doing his Senate job?
Unless, of course, McCain is doing this out of spite because he detests Donald Trump.
But he puts country first, so that cant be it.
Can it?
McCain can’t show up, because he’s probably already dead.
Just like the Soviets, he probably has been pumped full of formaldehyde long ago, and his clique are jockeying for power and waiting for the right time to announce that’s he’s actually died.
Everyone knows it is McCain’s ego first then country. McCain is under the delusion the two are the same.
If McCain doesn’t vote or resign, he will be screwing Mitch McConnell first and foremost, not Trump. This isn’t one that he can play into a “me versus Trump” battle. He may try, but it won’t work. It would be pure vanity of him to not resign and not show up. I hope he doesn’t do it but I wouldn’t put anything past him at this point.
Because Trump!
What if, hypothetically, McCain is a backstabbing bastard?
A very clever article from Mr Cain.
McCain has been dead for weeks, if not months - yet it is more useful to the Deep State to pretend he lives.
Mr Cain has skilfully called out mcShame and his masters - ordering him to declare his hand.
By this point, I think he’s down to roughly 120 pounds, and probably limited to a wheel chair. I do feel sorry for him, but upon the diagnosis, he should have retired within 30 days. His behavior is that of a 8-year old kid and the voters of Arizona fell for the act for well over twenty years.
I personally think that if you can’t show up every thirty days for a day of work....then the Senate should give permission of the Governor to appoint a replacement. This should not be that difficult to ease these losers out of their job.
McCain and Obama have many things in common and one of them is inflated ego’s and self worship,
So then, the report that he was going to resign on July 4, was just a fickle tease?
Because that’s just the crap he say to get reelected.
McCain wouldn’t show up if he could in spite of poor health. He is an agry vidicitive man with few real principles other than being a media-favorite gadfly against any GOP president (’casuse being president was always beyond his reech).
I doubt he chose Palin for any reason other than thinking he was playing the Democrats “gender” game. He certainly never really like her.
then the Senate should give permission of the Governor to appoint a replacement
*****************
I’d think that would be within the gov’t of AZ
and not the Senate as a whole.
Arizona deserves better than this.
First, McShame’s ego is out of control and the thought that his seat will just be handed to his wife is unacceptable.
Moreover, it is exasperating how Arpaio is sabotaging any chance Kelli Ward has to deny McSally the GOP nod to secure Flake’s seat. The split between Arpaio and Ward seems to augur that Flake’s successor will be Sinema, a RAT.
Of course, I’m in Maryland and totally hapless with two RATS.
Come on, Arizona GOP and get your act together. Your state is thee most vital western cornerstone for President Trump’s MAGA agenda.
“I am deeply sorry that John McCain is gravely ill. I have prayed for him. I will continue to do so.”
You are a far too kind and good man Mr. Cain.Far more forgiving than I.
McCain’s loyalty is to McCain - first, foremost, always.
He is NOT sick. Faking to avoid having to testify re his heavy involvement in dossier issue. Once a weasel, always a weasel.
By now (today July 5th) Juan McCain is supposed to be no longer a senator—one of his aides announced a few days ago that Juan was resigning effective July 4, 2018.
Unless Juan lied (which is altogether possible), the senate seat is empty and we’re waiting for Governor Ducey to appoint a replacement. If he appoints a McCain family member or a loathsome RINO (like Grant Woods), Ducey is going to put his governorship re-election this fall in serious jeopardy.
Looks like we are going to have to get proof of life from these old deep state goons. And even then, what kind of life really was it Johnny. One last big screw America from Team Death.
That was an article from a well-known fake news website ("Santa Monica Observer.")
