A South Korean court has ruled the killing of dogs for meat is illegal, in a landmark decision that animal rights activists said Thursday could pave the way to outlawing eating canines.

The meat has long been a part of South Korean cuisine, with about one million dogs believed to be eaten annually.

But consumption has declined as South Koreans increasingly embrace the idea of dogs as man's best friend rather than livestock, with the practice now something of a taboo among younger generations and pressure from activists mounting....

Thank you. Only a sadistic monster could participate in such a damnable cruelty.

I did two separate tours in Korea (1978-79 and 1981-82) and I only saw dogs offered as meat once in all my travels.

They do, however my uncle, who was a fighter pilot in the USAF during the Korean War said he honestly didn’t mind dropping bombs on them because they ate dogs. To say he was a dog lover is an understatement. My cousins always said his favorite child was his Golden Lab.

The effing Chinese are the cruelest in their treatment of all livestock. But the way they treat dogs for consumption - from cramming dozens of dogs to a cage to the heartless slaughtering methods - is utterly despicable. And don’t get me started on the black market for endangered animals.

Videos and images of the confinement and slaughter of dogs in China and other Asian countries is something that I can never forget. My sorrow for those poor suffering animals knows no end.

Pigs are smarter and more closely related to humans.

p07

You make bacon for your dog, you don't make bacon from your dog.

And hogs aren't tortured to death to enhance flavor by Black Label.

Thank you. I have two dogs. Well, actually I have three dogs but one has been missing since January 3. 😰😰 Anyway, my dogs are joyful, loving, playful and very loyal. They are also loving companions to my Maine Coon cat. The thought of those sweet babies being tortured and killed for food makes me insane. Anyone who has ever been a dog parent understands.

I don’t think animals should be tortured. But dogs are no more special than cows. I don’t want Hindus telling me I cannot eat cows and I don’t want anyone else telling me I cannot eat dog.

Your response is purely emotional.

Some cows can be surprisingly intelligent and affectionate. Why are you not outraged about them?

Wouldn’t it make a lot more sense for the Koreans to outlaw the torture of any animal, whether intended for eating or not, rather than have a court pick a single animal for special treatment?

yup, if this is not pushed back now sooner or later vegans and legislators are going to come for all meat here saying ‘well you guys supported banning strange meat over there because it was weird and nobody else did it and they were cute so lets get rid of eating cows here because its weird and everybody eats artificial meat now and cows are cute’. Improve conditions but we have no business wagging our finger at them with what we do.

Dogs are Man’s Best Friend. Why would anyone get a sick thrill out of brutally abusing and torturing dogs before killing them?

Most dogs are much more loving and loyal than most people.
