A girl dances in her quinceañera dress outside of the detention facility where her father is being held. He was detained by ICE over a year ago after living in the U.S. for nearly 30 years.
A 15-year-old girl in Richmond, California, wanted to dance with her dad at her quinceañera, but the closest she could get was outside of the detention center where he is being held. So wearing a big ball gown, she and a partner danced in front of a crowd of people who had gathered outside the detention center to help raise awareness for detained immigrants.
Her father, Raul Lopez, was detained by ICE after living in the U.S. for decades. His wife, Dianeth Lopez, said he already had a pending immigration case when he made the mistake of driving under the influence of alcohol. Raul Lopez was subsequently placed on house arrest and also spent two months in jail for the DUI case, KPIX reported.
In March 2017, Lopez went to a check-in appointment at the San Francisco ICE office, where he was taken into custody. He has remained jailed since.
We want to be able to be there for people during these check-ins, which are becoming increasingly more and more dangerous, Rev. Deborah Lee, executive director for Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity, said in May. The Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity helped organize Saturdays vigil outside the detention center.
The goal of the vigil was to raise awareness about Lopez and other immigrants who have been separated from their families. Lopezs family spoke at the vigil, and his daughter wore her quinceañera gown to symbolize the milestone in her life that he missed.
We really want to help this man who has been here for 29 years, who has no family in Guatemala to return to. He has absolutely has to be allowed to stay right here with his family where he belongs, Rev. Lee said.
No pity here——my father DIED when I was five——and I got no attention from the press.
This is sickening.
.
My tiny violin is at the cleaners...
the father knew, every year he stayed, that he was here illegally. He knew, after his DUI, that the gig was up. He had plenty of opportunity to take his money and return to his home country and build a life for his children.
Instead, he teaches his children to hate America for deporting him for not thinking of his family first.
Ship the entire family back to Mexico where they belong.
No problemo, chief! Take the little senorita with you. I'm telling you amigo, you gotta learn to think outside the box!
You're welcome.
Guatemala.
Go home folks. Dance there.
He has absolutely has to be allowed to stay right here with his family where he belongs, Rev. Lee said.
No, he doesnt.
L
My mother was killed by a drunk driver when I was 6, so no pity from me either.
Maybe they can all dance to her Quinceañera all the way back to Guatemala!
Why is he still in detention?
Why has he not been deported already along with the rest of his illegal family?
Astonishing,isn’t it?
You and I had parents taken from us permanently and these parents CHOSE to endanger their kids.
.
They could get a lot closer. This reckless criminal should be deported immediately, and his wife and daughter could go home with him. Then the daughter could come back once she's ready to live on her own. Dividing his family was this selfish man's choice after he made the dangerous decision (not a "mistake", a conscious choice) to drive drunk. I have no sympathy for selfish criminals who put normal Americans at risk.
American kids grow up in foreign countries all the time while their parents serve away from home. Then they all go home to America.
Hows that for an American Dream Plan? Go Home!
Major portion of American citizens dont give a RATS ASS about this either they can ALL go back to Mexico and have their DAMBED PARTY as one big happy family!{!! The MSM believes they are pulling at our heartstrings they honestly dont understand just how FED UP we are with the invasion of OUR COUNTRY!!! Marching up and down the streets with the Mexican flags waving high SCREAMING for their rights IN SPANISH!!! GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! GO HOME!!!!
Is that her father?
I am so sorry. I cannot imagine losing a parent at such a young age. ((Hugs))
