Variety reports on Robert De Niros stunt at last nights Tony Awards. Do not play the video at work; he drops an F-bomb. Excerpt:
Robert De Niro had a few choice words for President Donald Trump while the legendary actor was on stage at Sundays Tony Awards to introduce Bruce Springsteens musical performance.
Im going to say one thing, F Trump, De Niro said while pumping his fists in the air. Its no longer down with Trump. Its f Trump.
The political sentiment earned De Niro a standing ovation from the crowd at Radio City Music Hall, while CBS scrambled to bleep the audio on the live telecast. After the audience settled, De Niro got back to talking about Springsteen, who received a special Tony Award during Sunday night. The intimate show, Springsteen on Broadway or as De Niro referred to it, Jersey Boy features the Boss performing his music and sharing stories from his 2016 autobiography Born to Run. Tickets to the exclusive concert residency, which has been extended twice, are upwards of $850.
This is so perfect. A New York-based movie star denounces Donald Trump in his introduction for a blue-collar troubadour whose stories about the Working Man are being performed for Manhattan audiences who pay close to a thousand dollars a ticket to hear them.

Original Broadway musicals that I enjoy are becoming increasingly rare. The only one in the last few years was “Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812”.
Very well written. I don’t know what else to say.
A foul mouthed, disgusting, washed up actor introducing a filthy draft dodging piece of garbage. Well, that's a good fit, huh? May they both rot in hell.
DeNiro, The Putz, received a standing ovation for F Trump.... That is what the sick freaks in tinsel town have become.
It was a terrific show, and Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles did a great job hosting — and this is the story, not the winners or the show itself, but this?
...this is the story, not the winners or the show itself, but this?”
Personally I think the entire audience giving a standing ovation to the phrase “F Trump” is significant. If I had bothered to watch this drivel I would have tuned it out at that point.
There’s no reason that theater awards have to be politicized, any more than movie awards, sit-coms, pop songs or any other aspect of the entertainment industry. There aren’t that many New Yorkers who bother going to the overpriced crap on Broadway any more. Most of the audiences are foreign tourists, but a significant part of their market is tourists from all over the USA.
Little Bobby DeNiro and the audience at the Tony awards chose to give half of those people the finger last night. Back at ya guys!
"Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"
No great loss actually. I can't recall watching any on the list ever. I don't even need to write all the names down.
No problem.
Now I finally totally understand why, in medieval times, actors were NEVER allowed to sleep within the town where they were performing...
In clinical psychiatry such behavior is defined as a manifestation of inferiority complex.
Broadway crashed and burned many decades ago; there hasn’t been anything, musical or non-musical, worth seeing in an extremely long time! And for the most part, the revivals are miscast and changed ( PC crap ) to such an extent, that they are worthless!
What a beautiful, touching piece. Thank you for posting it.
