Virginia Rep. Tom Garrett and his wife turned the congressmans staff into personal servants, multiple former employees to the freshman Republican told POLITICO assigning them tasks from grocery shopping to fetching the congressmans clothes to caring for their pet dog, all during work hours. POLITICO has spoken with four former staffers who detailed a deeply dysfunctional office in which the congressman and his wife, Flanna, often demanded that staff run personal errands outside their typical congressional duties. The couple called on staff to pick up groceries, chauffeur Garretts daughters to and from his Virginia district, and fetch clothes that the congressman forgot at his Washington apartment. They were even expected to watch and clean up after Sophie, their Jack Russell-Pomeranian mix, the aides said.

Oh, the Horror! Politico has uncovered unseemly behavior by one of the meanie Republicans in the Congress. This set of misdeeds need to be shielded from the little ones and our Republic is potentially saved by this investigative reporting. Who had any idea? Oh wait ... you say that this sort of thing has been going on since the Congress first assembeled in Philadelphia. That this is a long standing bipartisan sport and both parties play at some level. Most Hall of Famers of this sport are Democrats. Barbara Lee, for example live a block or two from her Congressional office, but she employees a chauffeur would delivers her from her home to her office and back so that she can avoid any accidental contact with a member of the public. But, trying to find articles naming Democrats of these crimes is harder than finding the Fountain of Youth.
When my brother in law was young, he worked as an elevator operator in the Capitol (patronage job) and later a staffer for our Senator. He was in college and therefore his job description included menial tasks like this along with many fellow young people working at the Capitol. Give me a break. Politico is scraping the bottom of the barrel on this.
Pity they couldn’t quit their jobs if they were so dissatisfied.
We need to know the races of the staff in order to determine if this is terrible or not.
Exactly what I was thinking.
They could have just found another job.
lol
“Pity they couldnt quit their jobs if they were so dissatisfied.”
Exactly. It does not appear that they were slaves.
oh the horror
hang out in the congressman’s house
through food at the dog
have sex in their bed
musta been aweful
How much were the staffers paid? If you offer enough money to me I will be happy to pick up dog do.
They can go work for Arnold Schwarzenegger. Heard he has huge benefit package.
Hell yeah! I've been picking up free for years and years and years..........
It could have been much, much worse.
They could have been working for the notoriously difficult and tyrannical Sheila Jackson Lee, oft-times nominated as meanest and most self-entitled Congress-person.
The attached ball and chain would’ve stopped then from leaving.
It was his doody
"Sophie, their Jack Russell-Pomeranian mix"
That is so wrong! Evil. I vote guilty!
What would you call such a monster, a Jackaranian? A Russepom? Horrible stuff.
HIT PIECE! When it takes three to write a dribble piece, it is a hit piece. Spread the blame game.
Mr. Congressman doing wrong, while the aides didn't tell him to gfy.
If this was enforced, the Congress could never get a quorum. But if this guy is punished, every single member of Congress who are breaking this regulation must be punished as well. You can be sure that such a thing will never occur. The Ethics Committee prohibits taking money under the table in exchange for political favors. I’m sure that never goes on.
The dems must be targeting Garrett in the mid-terms to put out something like this.
Trying to make the rest of the state as blue as NORVA.
It's worse than that! I just read that Rep. Schiff is breeding half-human, half chicken Democrats that his aids must care for!
