President Donald Trump on Thursday canceled his planned summit with Kim Jong Un, scolding the North Korean leader in a letter for "tremendous anger and open hostility" while also bluntly reminding Kim of the United States' nuclear prowess.
The scuttling of the meeting, which had been scheduled for June 12 in Singapore, is a blow to U.S. efforts to persuade North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons, as well as Trump's desire to land a legacy-making deal with the hermetic nation.
It also raises the risk of conflict in East Asia and has rattled U.S. allies South Korea and Japan.
Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting, Trump wrote in the letter, which a senior White House official said was dictated entirely by the president.
Trump and his aides sought to pin the blame for the canceled summit entirely on North Korea.
During a televised public address midday Thursday from the White House's Roosevelt Room, Trump directly linked the decision to recent inflammatory remarks made by North Korean officials. Choe Son Hui, the North Korean vice minister of foreign affairs, had warned overnight that Pyongyang could make the U.S. taste an appalling tragedy it has neither experienced nor even imagined.(continued)

there. fixed it.
Patience people...patience.
Suck the paint off his house and turn his hair orange
The Washington elites, as well as the media and Democrat Party, wanted a deal for the sake of getting a deal.
However, nothing they wanted out of a deal is results-oriented or even puts the interests of the U.S. first.
They believe in simply making a deal, so they can chat about it later among other elites over cocktails.
That is why most of the media is silent about this. Oh, Trump is getting the obligatory criticism from celebrities and left-wing blogs. But in the regular liberal media, there's muted silence other than simply reporting that the summit has been cancelled.
They are simply psychologically incapable of making deals or agreements that are results oriented.
Precisely where it belongs.
I wonder if our nukes still work.
I wonder if maybe it’s time to start testing them again.
Politico commentator is prematurely gleeful
Had breakfast with a number of military folks today. All of high ranks. ALL of them thought the Trump move was brilliant.
Funny, guess they are not as smart as those Politico writers.
Even though the military types were 75% ex fighter types, and all had a minimum of Master’s degrees - in real subjects . Not politics, journalism or any of the box top 75 IQ stuff oozing from journalism schools.
So, who do I believe, journalists or real warriers all possessing far better credentials (experience and academia) than those toads pushing digits at Politico?
What a dilemma.
Kim and in fact all the world should realize
we used nuclear weapons to end one war and
can do so again.
Do ya feel lucky punk?
Note to North Korea, you ARE still at war with us
so you say.
If they want to fix blame they should look in a mirror. It was stupid for Trump to even schedule this meeting. There's no talking to North Korea. I guess every President wants to re-learn that lesson for himself.
And we found the graduate from the George W. Bush school of international diplomacy.
You can’t cancel a meeting you haven’t scheduled...
Hard to believe anything will come of this, but Trump is playing it right.
Well, Kim released his hostages and destroyed a nuke site.
He got nothing, and is still under sanctions.
This is going well so far.
“...North Korean officials. Choe Son Hui, the North Korean vice minister of foreign affairs, had warned overnight that Pyongyang could make the U.S. taste an appalling tragedy it has neither experienced nor even imagined.”
So, Trumps “nuclear threat” was actually just a reminder to the threatening Choe Son Hui, that if they play that card, we’ll be playing the Trump card.
Li’l Kimmy needs to learn the lesson I learned from watching “Gunsmoke”, when I was about 10 years old...when Marshal Dillon said, “Only a fool would draw on a drop.”
We’ve got the “drop” on Kimmy, and he’d be a fool to “draw” now.
Gets on how long Choe lives?
