Never understood the Cronkite adulation. A sonorous voice is only a sonorous voice. IMO Cronkite was downright dangerous.

I remember WC Crankwit intoning, “Those POOR kids. Those poor kids,” while those Kent State 8@$7@^9$ were chucking everything they could find at the cops. Sounds like Evergreen State. Piss on WC and the horse he rode in on. Journalist? Ha!
To: rlmorel
For many years, I did my best to report on the issues of the day in as objective a manner as possible. When I had my own strong opinions, as I often did, I tried not to communicate them to my audience. BWAHAHAhahahahahahahaha!!!
What a colossal load of horse$#!+!
No way that lying SOB actually believed that ... but he sure did an effective job of convincing others.

Ah yes, the alter ego of the Clint Howard alien on Star Trek. As explained, this puppet would scare people, but nobody would be scared by Clint Howard since he was a little boy then.
I see the resemblance to Hillary’s appearance when she wondered why she wasn’t 50 points ahead

He did more front line reporting in WWII than most other reporters. He flew in the gliders on DDay. His lglider crashed in some field and many on board were killed.
He may have had pink panties, he had brass balls.
To: Beowulf9
I liked him, but I was young then.

Wow, worse than he seemed. He would have us ruled by the 57 muslim states and communists of the UN! He only mentions the enemies of the religious right!
Let’s hope it was senility, but I doubt it was.

He did more front line reporting in WWII than most other reporters. Then he became a liar, a traitor, and a communist.

For a man so well traveled , he sure didn’t see the world.
Of course he only meet the “dilettantes” of each society he visited. Not the (Islamist) terrorist that are ruling whole countries.
These would have ‘Uncle Walers” head on a pike and dogs gnawing at his liver.
World Federalist organization, my ass.

Yup. I hated the SOB for his lying so called reporting then and has not changed. He was a hero to the same filthy anti war hippies that spit on me in the San Francisco airport-—rot in Hell Uncle Walter, America’s so called must trusted reporter.

He peaked at a time when television was holy. Americans revered newscasts and newscasters. We were gullible.

I agree. It’s just not as obvious. He never was photographed with the Viet Cong. ;-)
I think he did far more damage.

He turned public opinion around with regards to the Vietnam war, by reporting that we lost the TET offensive. That is how he inflicted his damage.
To: Robert DeLong
Yet we won. That was a serious travesty. If we’d had the internet then, the truth would have gotten out as it does today.

We did indeed win the TET offensive. He had lied about the U.S. losing. Sure they caught us off guard because there was supposed to be a truce in place. But even being caught off guard they captured only a few towns, and those towns were recaptured fairly quickly. Ho Chi Minh himself even admitted that he thought the north had lost the entire war. Walter Cronkite renewed his hope with his negative reporting. And the rest is history now.
