Law professor Giuseppe Conti will lead a new Italian government as President Sergio Mattarella gave consent for him to form a new government.

Conti appeared before the media outside the president's office at 130pm Eastern (730pm Italian time) to make the announcement.

Italy wasn’t completely unified until 1870. The regions of Italy have distinctive characteristics. It’s not hard to understand that so many Italians don’t want to be folded into the EU and they don’t want the EU demanding that they be over-run by invaders.

Her party has evolved into a formation called the “Brothers of Italy” which has several dozen parliamentary seats as part of the old “Right” coalition with Berlusconi’s “Forza Italia” Party and the League.

The League now joins the Five Star to form a majority government in parliament leaving the party she identified with on the outs.

They have signed onto a “contract” that says 500-thousand migrants will be deported.
