President Trump offered a cordial message on Friday to the parents of Otto Warmbier, the American college student who died last year after being detained for 17 months in North Korea.
The Washington Post reported that Trump spoke to the student's parents, Fred and Cindy Warmbier, as the president prepares for a highly anticipated meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in the coming weeks.
The call came the same day that Trump announced that a date and time had been set for the summit with Kim, though he declined to say exactly when and where the two men would meet.
Trump has also suggested recently that North Korea could release three other Americans being held in the country, saying on Friday that a lot of good things have already happened with respect to the hostages."
The Warmbiers are suing North Korea, alleging that the country's government brutally tortured and murdered their son during his 17-month detention....

Gotta be tough for the Warmbiers as I’m sure they want to charge Kim with crimes against humanity but when you weight it against world peace...trying him would be satisfying but won’t bring Otto back.
Thank you for posting this. I was thinking about this family and how recent events must be affecting them.
RIP Otto and prayers for your family.
I often wonder who goes to North Korea. Why would any American visit a place known for kidnapping inocent people and charging innocent people so they can hold them as political pawns.
I see your point, but if things go sour....it will look like they’ve “gotten away” with their treatment of Otto, even if only temporarily. One wonders how or even if Trump will broach the subject with Kim, and whether he has told the Warmbiers what he intends to do, and how he will have to tread carefully. What would be even remotely “satisfying” for the Warmbiers to hear, some grudging admission of “guilt” from North Korea? At this point, (or at any point, for that matter )
nothing can be proven about what North Korea’s abject negligence (at best) or torture-to-the-point-of-death (at worst)
The kid’s parents were TOTALLY IDIOTS in letting him go there. I feel sorry for the kid, as I don’t expect people who are of the age where Bernie appeals to them to understand just what North Korea is. But his IDIOT PARENTS have no excuse.
did they let him go there? Did they pay the freight? Or did he choose to go there?
there are a lot of horrific things that happen in a lot of horrific places
I was thinking about them also AND wondering about the health condition of the others. Is that why they are in a hotel? Docs?
I don’t think it’s fair to blame the parents. Otto was over 18. What were they supposed to do, lock him up?
I agree.
“did they let him go there? Did they pay the freight? Or did he choose to go there?”
I don’t know any of those answers, but I still BLAME HIS PARENTS. Sure he can choose to ignore them, and go anyway, but a pair of DECENT PARENTS would have told him flat-out not to go, and if he didn’t listen, then they raised him bad. If I were that clear with my kids, they would not have considered going there.

Hey Freepers.
All of you whose adult kids do exactly what you want?
Stand here. You are DECENT PARENTS!
All of you whose adult kids make their life choices and sometimes they are not the ones you would hope for them?
Stand here. You are INDECENT PARENTS!
OK now everyone knows who they are.
And where they stand in the Parenting Competitions.
No one in their right mind would go to North Korea and then steal something and think you were going to get away with it while I feel badly for the family I’m sorry... I save my real sympathy for those who put their lives on the line trying to protect us from these dictators everyday every hour every minute
That’s a good guess and you are probably right. Just bring them home, President Trump!
Yep, it’s one of those things. Either you INSTILL VALUES and knowledge into your kids, or others will do that.
Why do you think there are so many FLAMING LEFTIST KIDS, coming from otherwise Conservative Households? You may not know, so I’ll fill you in: It’s due to PARENTS thinking that they have no business instilling proper values into their kids - so guess what, OTHERS get to do just that, and the kids are screwed for life.
At least POTUS Trump reached out to them to discus his Meeting with Rocket Man rather than telling them that their Son died because of a YouTube Video while standing in front of his Coffin.
I agree but I found out one has to be careful about this subject. I kind of always thought he was a socialist at least!!!

sure that ALWAYS works.
I know parents who have always done the right thing by their children, homeschooling, and every way to instill the good values...and the kids still walked away from them and their good values. The heart is only so malleable from the outside. Character formation only works with someone who is willing.
I mean of course you don’t want anyone killed and certainly not suffering the way he did before he succumbed... but I just I think some things are easily predicted and this unfortunately was one of them. But of course my heart does break for the family... regardless of politics they are still parents. (I would have said “first and foremost” they were parents but that phrase was taken over by BET and Hollywood LOL!!
