An important part of membership into Trail Life is internalizing the oath:

On my honor, I will do my best To serve God and my country; To respect authority; To be a good steward of creation; And to treat others as I want to be treated.

On my honor…

Today, many people equate “honor” with fame, awards, and recognition from the world. However, for the Trailman, honor is understood

What is a Trailman?
The oath sounds like it was plagiarized from the Boy Scouts.

A Trailman is a boy who is a member of Trail Life USA.

It’s a Christ centered outdoor adventure program for boys ages 5-17.

It’s broken down into five age appropriate divisions. Woodlands Trail is the program for younger boys, ages 5-10. Within Woodlands Trail are three subgroups broken up into Fox (5-6), Hawk (7-8) and Mountain Lions (9-10)

Middle school age boys are Navigators and high school age are Adventurers.

They engage in regular meetings to learn skills and build character.

In addition to the meetings, they have regular outdoor adventure. Tomorrow, our Woodlands Trail boys will be at a sports clinic learning some new skills. Navigators and Adventurers campout about once a month and do other stuff.

You are right though. Trail Life USA was formed in 2013 in response to BSA losing their way on the morals part of their oath and law.

One of our original theme’s was “Honor the legacy, raise the standard.” In all honesty, we do that. We are in all senses, a scouting organization in the Baden Powell tradition. there are actually dozens of such organizations that are not Boy Scouts related.

From the corporate side of things, I tend to despise corporate mission statements. Most are mealy mouthed tripe written just to say they have a mission.

I have been at my current company almost ten years. I’m an acknowledged expert in my field. I have no idea if my company even has a “mission statement.”

That said, I like and believe the mission statement of Trail Life USA so much I’ve memorized it.

“To guide generations of courageous young men to honor God, lead with integrity, serve others and experience outdoor adventure.”

In other words, outdoor adventure is the catalyst to honoring God, leading with integrity and serving others.

I was a Boy Scout leader for over ten years. I even founded a troop. Although I wasn’t a Boy Scout myself, I bled tan and green. I literally grieved when we made the decision to leave and join Trail Life in 2013. But mad what a ride it’s been since then.

Freepers with boys. If you’ve gotten through this whole thing, please check out traillifeusa.com.

We also have a very close relationship with a similar organization for girls. American Heritage Girls has been around for about 20 years and is active nationwide. americanheritagegirls.org

If there’s no troop in your area, try to start one at your church.

I have no beef with your excerpt policy obsession because it is good for Freepers, but on the broader issue of hostility to bloggers, you do realize the elites who wanted to stick us with Jeb! also want all non-establishment news sources attacked at every turn?

Personally I feel like the more outlets, the better. Even Conservative establishment news sites were saying vote Hillary before Trump. Only the blogs supported him online.

Food for thought.
