Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster and Hall of Fame baseball player Mike Schmidt has taken some heat for a joke he made about women, dishwashing and the #MeToo movement during a game Saturday, according to the New York Post.
Schmidt, who has made controversial remarks in the past, is an analyst on Comcast SportsNet.
Schmidts joke came during a discussion about a humorous tweet from an Atlanta Braves players wife about an injury.
Amanda McCarthy @Mrs_McCarthy32 Whoa so much happened. Dislocated your shoulder, made the out, popped it back in, then just walked around normal? But you still cant do the dishes... seems fishy.

They say when you do that, youre going to do it another time, said Tom McCarthy, the play-by-play announcer. If you pop your shoulder, its gonna keep on popping out. And I guess if you dont do the dishes, it doesnt matter; youre just never going to do the dishes.
Ive got a dishwasher at home, myself, Schmidt said. My wife.
Donna is not going to be happy about that, McCarthy responded, laughing and groaning.
That was bad, huh? Schmidt then said. Actually, I do the dishes. Most of the time.
McCarthy then mentioned that Christine, the stage manager, was staring at Schmidt after the joke.
Christine, our stage manager, is not happy about that, McCarthy said.
MeToo movement, where does that fit in? Schmidt asked.
Im just trying to be funny, Schmidt said, after a brief silence. Thats really not the case.

Some fans watching the game took to Twitter to call for Schmidts removal from the broadcast.
What about past controversy? Schmidt has gotten himself in trouble for comments in the past. In 2017, Schmidt said teams could not build around players who didnt speak English.
My honest answer to that would be no because of a couple of things, Schmidt said when asked whether outfielder Odubel Herrera, who is Venezuelan, could be a franchise foundation. First of all, its a language barrier. Because of that, I think he cant be a guy that would sort of sit in a circle with four, five American players and talk about the game. Or try and learn about the game or discuss the inner workings of the game. Or come over to a guy and say, Man you gotta run that ball out. Just cant be because of the language barrier that kind of player.
Schmidt later apologized to Herrera.
English is the language barrier in MLB nowadays.
This is a “controversy?” Seriously?
Seems to me that anyone that has been playing organized ball for American franchises for more than 3 or 4 years shouldn’t need an interpreter when it comes to an interview or a talk with the Manager..
MAYBE with the GM when it comes to contracts but the lawyers/agents probably are against that
This entire controversy is stupid, stupid, stupid. it proves that lefties have no sense of humor. It shows how utterly intolerant they are.
There working model seems to be, If you vary the tiniest bit from their preferred modes, you should be fired.
Instead of “Sticks and Stone may break my bones, but words can never hurt me” it is that words are deadly weapons, and any word uttered that we disapprove of, is immediate grounds for severe punishment.
It is complete insanity. They have set up crimethink standards that are impossible for normals to meet.
Oh please! Is this what they are getting their panties in a twist over now? Grow up! Join the real world!
She’;s quite the looker, and he’s not a bad pitcher. (I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s moved at the trade deadline.)
Given the Hispanic takeover of MLB, seems it’s everyone else should be speaking Spanish.
Among controversial comments, this wouldn’t make the top ten at our evening dinner table conversation.
Good grief.
I have come to have great disdain for the word ‘controversial’ in any article or radio or television broadcast.
Arent most, if not all controversies, media generated? I am a big time NY Yankee hater, but I remember all the controversy surrounding George Steinbrenner. Was he THAT controversial, or did the media just say he was?
I figure no one is as good, or as bad, as the media claim.
When I was on a college fencing team, the ethnic/religious composition was white, Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, other; Jewish; Ukrainian heritage; Russian heritage; Polish heritage; Italian; one from India (we think - not sure who he was); Irish American coach; half Chinese-half White American coach; volunteer coaches Jewish and English; Afro-American (one was a good buddy of Bill Cosby - hint about what school I went to), fencer-manager, Jewish.
I once fenced a match under the refereeship of a Hungarian Olympian, where the commands/remarks were in French, and everybody spoke English in general.
Back in the 60’s, we were all Americans and all spoke English no matter what our backgrounds were (our team members and coaches spoke at least 7-9 languages amongst us - English, Chinese, Italian, Ukrainian, Polish, French and/or Spanish from classes, Hebrew/Yiddish and perhaps some Irish.
Nobody was PC. Nobody was racist. Nobody showed any disrespect for our opponents or girls. That was how the sport was played. Everybody was equal, respectful, and worked hard to be the best.
Today, you can’t fart at a game without some PC schmuck calling you an environmental polluter.
Is horseshoes still a safe sport or has PETA gotten to it also?
Thanks TBP.
If I was the greatest 3rd Baseman having made millions of dollars and can still draw a crown of fans at the right venue anywhere in the country, I am NOT doing dishes, and Mrs. Schmidt wouldn’t either if she didn’t want to. Personally, I’d eat off of Chinettes first.
Come to think of it, I’m nobody special and don’t do dishes now (except lately at concession stand duty for my kid’s Little League).
He didn't really make that much $$$
During his baseball career he made around $17 million dollars
