Tannerite Shoot gone Wrong
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 4/6/2018 | J Hines

Shooting explosive target can be a fun way to pass the day, but safety should be paramount.
Many gun enthusiasts forget being at a safe distance is key to enjoyment and being safe from possible flying debris.
Experts advised being at 100 yards away for every pounds of explosives.
Don’t be like this fellow below.
Youtuber Dixie Dirt Draggers is standing way too close to his target. After missing some shots he finally hits the mark which resulted in a huge explosion that sends the shrapnel flying back at the shooter and bystanders.

Yes, it sure look like fun but its not worth getting injured over. Be Safe!
Or maybe you can use less tannerite and can still get as much fun like this gal. See the full footage of tannerite shoot gone wrong here.

Interesting to see this post today. I didn’t know what tannerite was till this week when we had a bit of a scare.

Most of my neighbors shoot target practice and no one minds hearing it echo through the hills. It’s all a part of this great rural living. But a couple of days ago around 6:30 in the evening we were watching TV and I heard an explosion. I couldn’t tell if it was way far off or just something small happening in the basement, but it did rattle the windows. I ask my hubby, “did you hear that?” He is a bit hard of hearing and said, “no” and that I was mistaken. I searched the basement while he laughed at me. Didn’t find anything wrong down there, but worried about it all night. The next day we find out that neighbors, even 6 or more miles away heard it and someone even called the police to check it out. Turns out it was some guys shooting tannerite. They laughed and said how much fun it was, but I think it was a bit rude to think it funny that so many neighbors were shaken.

What did the Tannerites ever do to deserve shooting? Do they practice some weird religion or something?

...I think it was a bit rude to think it funny that so many neighbors were shaken.

Although I live on 80+/- acres, I am still able to hear any shooting that happens around my acreage/home.

There are some unsupervised little twerps that live directly behind me that thing it the utmost in manly-life to step out their back door and rip off a few mags of whatever Dad left laying around, not really caring where the rounds end up.

They only do it when he is gone.

Anyway, they got hold of some Tannerite and being the little dumb asses they are, put it against a very expensive well house/pump structure.

One hellacious big boom that was heard by many of the neighbors, destroyed the pump/well house and the little turds could NOT deny it, since so many heard it and Dad was missing about three two pound containers of his Tannerite.

Dad is looking at about 18-20000 dollars for a new well, pump and some lines and the structure.

Haven't heard a peep out of the little darlings for some time, now.

Around mid 1960s, the North-South Skirmish Assn held a shoot up at Lake George, NY. Spectacular stuff, like 12 pdr Napoleons, etc. shooting concrete-filled tin cans at dynamite-filled (one stick) targets on the lake.

One land shoot was .58 rifled musket shooting at half sticks of dynamite 50 yards distant. Lots of cool BOOMS. Then our team finally hit one and the pressure wave made it feel like you were in a small room and someone slammed the door. Developed a LOT of respect for dynamite after that.

Someone later told us that the Confederate guys brought a CASE of dynamite up from Virginia in the trunk of their car. That’s 400-500 miles of asking God to take you out with a rear-end collision.
