Feral hogs can be a pain on your property where they run rampant.
Some owners have hunted them down to mitigate the problem at the ground level.
Now these guys from John Coffee FB took this mitigation to the air via helicopter.
Hunting these hogs at the ground level can be a chore and sometimes they do get out of your sights or they run in every direction.
With this airborne approach, man, you own the sky.
Once the hogs have been spotted, you can get to work quickly, yes it is like shooting ducks at a gallery.
But at least these hogs offer you a moving target to enhance your marksmanship. See the full footage of hog hunt from the air here.
“Trapping is best though”.......
It is well recognized that there is an over abundance of hogs running and ruining ones land. I have been looking into hog hunting for a while and find that numerous “ranches” are trapping hogs for the purpose of relocating them to other ranches that charge hunters a pretty high penny to come and “hunt” (meaning shoot) hogs at the feeding troughs. Personally, I do NOT see the sport in such hunts nor using a helicopter to shoot from and calling it “hunting” is NOT hunting, it’s killing. Just my opinion.
Illegal.
Probably just as well.
I believe trapping is still more efficient if done smart. You should trap and slaughter.
Hunting is fun but it was mentioned how fast they are reproducing. You wouldn’t put a dent on their population helicopter or not.
The problem with hogs in North America is lack of predators preying on them.
They are less a problem in Europe which has wolves.
In Russia there are a lot of volves and also big cats that is why wild hogs are really rare.
A bit more costly than a traditional hog hunt, though.
The food out/fence built one side at a time method (the example used to illustrate how socialism removes incentive to do for oneself) sounds like a good alternative.
That's the truth! I've seen aerial hog hunting videos where it's one shot, one dead pig. Very few misses.
I have run into the same issue. I read all the stories about how the farmers and ranchers have such a problem with hogs I decided to look for a place to hunt hogs in Texas (I live in Arizona). I found the prices to be outrageous!!
One outfit said I could hunt for free, but I had to pay their employee a hundred dollars a hog to skin it. That is nuts!
Other ranches charge exorbitant daily fees, plus a “trophy” fee. I do not think the problem is as great as they make it out to be.
Piggies dont Surf
Sausage by cheating?
“They are less a problem in Europe which has wolves”.....
Not sure where you live but there are plenty of wolves in Minnesota and Wisconsin. By the way, we have no hogs here.
Obviously I am talking about the areas which has them.
In any given year you have to kill 60+% of them to have 0 growth in the population!
Yeah, agree. Im on a deer lease in West Texas and each year theres more feral hogs. After weve taken our deer for the season we sometimes spend a day or two killing hogs. And, the owner allows a professional hog hunter to keep pens on the property year round. Still, the hogs are gaining in numbers. Until you see vwhat they can do to a low area such as a creek bottom its hard for city slickers to understand the magnitude of the problem.
