On Monday, the Committee to Protect Journalists named Donald Trump the “top global press oppressor.” This group considers itself a defender of free speech for the journalists and reporters worldwide, and advocates against countries that abuse those who truthfully report the news. Apparently, they think the President is the most significant threat to the freedom of the press all around the world.
TRUMP WINS THE TOP “PRESS OPPRESSOR” DESIGNATION The committee released its list of top global oppressors on Monday. The timing is interesting, as it came shortly after Trump’s announcement that he would be holding the “fake news” awards.
In a statement, the organization contrasted President Trump to other world leaders when it comes to protecting freedom of the press. “While previous U.S. presidents have each criticized the press to some degree, they have also made public commitments to uphold its essential role in democracy, at home and abroad,” they wrote. “Trump, by contrast, has consistently undermined domestic news outlets and declined to publicly raise freedom of the press with repressive leaders such as Xi [Jinping], [Recep Tayyip] Erdoğan, and [Abdel Fattah al-]Sisi.”
The group also slammed Trump for attacking journalists and news outlets on social media and during his speeches. “Since declaring his presidential candidacy in 2015, Trump has posted about 1,000 tweets critical of the press,” they wrote.
Now that we know who the committee believes to be the worst abuser of the press in the world, let’s take a look at how other leaders treat journalists.

How many journalists are named Donald Trump?
Well, I guess they did not bother talking to Bob Woodward regarding his experiences with the Obama administration (but we know that the talking classes always give the Dems a pass on everything).
How many has he fed into wood chippers?

Trump is the pied piper of the press - he will lead them to truthful (and useful) news reporting, or he will lead them to drown in the ocean of their own hubris.
Meanwhile, while the “news hounds” are discussing how much diet coke someone consumes or the words they want to put in their mouth, the world goes on, and for the better without the press interfering. Look at North/South Korea. May come to nothing but you never know.
“Oppression” means not cowering like most Republicans do. Oppression really means jailing and torturing like they do in shithole countries.
I keep looking for the laws that Trump has caused to come in to being which are directed at the press.
So far, no laws.
Could it be that the press just simply not very bright, but very verbose?
Could it be that suspicions that when one is not really prepared for college, but wants a degree, one majors in journalism?
Isn’t the fact the just about everyone can call the country’s leader every name in the book - racist, Hitler, idiot, whatever - and still NOT be rounded up by the police and thrown in jail, proof that America is NOT an oppressive country?
No newspaper reporters or editors in America are being thrown in jail for their anti-President screeds, even the fake ones.
Contrast that with countries like Russia, China, Iran, Zimbabwe, etc. where real hazards exist, including death.
THAT’S the difference between the US and a lot of the rest of the world.

That’s freedom of the press: you use yours, he uses his.
Oppression is when he breaks your press, or jails/kills you for using it.
They are such hypocrites! Obama and Hillary only choose the media to speak with they know will give them nothing but softball questions.

Show me one example of him criticizing (oppressing) a news reporter/organization who TRUTHFULLY reports the news, and we’ll talk.

I note that the “journalist” who wrote this article wrote the article and Trump didn’t stop that or anything else from being written by anyone, ever.
The amusing thing about this group is that they spend a lot of money on things like expensive offices in New York. They also have millions in US equities. Given the stock market since Trump was elected Trump has made them a pile of money.

I’ve been studying nonprofit 990’s for over 15 years. This group is another one that spends a lot on expenses. They are now a political entity and should lose their nonprofit status. They did do something unusual and buried their IRS filings on their web site. That’s good.
Stop right there! This from the very same press that accepted payments from a smear group, Fusion GPS, that is a toxic combination of DNC cash and corrupt FBI agents? That press is protecting democracy? No, that press is a perversion, a propaganda wing of a corrupt cabal that has no problem misusing government resources to spy on its political opponents. Far from protecting the weak from the strong, the so-called free press in this country is an enabler of fascism in the dictionary-definition sense of the word.
