It was Hollywood’s 20-year-later outing of Horrid Harvey Weinstein that opened the floodgates exposing the innumerable lechers in today’s amoral society.

Rush caught Kirsten Gillibrand trying that one, and in today’s Morning Update he tore into her royally for it. Pointing out that conservatives knew at the time that WJC’s behavior was beyond the pale.And that the Democrats’ actions at the time were political, and their actions now are equally political.

This is an argument for Trump to go “all in” for Judge Moore. He could go down to Alabama and hold a rally with the witnesses who have spoken up to discredit Moore’s accusers. The other possible approach would be to highlight the “recovered memory” problem, which is well documented to be a catastrophe and a fraud. An “expert witness” approach. Trump wasn’t in Alabama at the time, so it is only logical to defer to Alabama’s voters’ judgement. But there is ample room for an honest, public-spirited voter to discount the accusations according to their own experience of Moore’s behavior over the decades. They don’t have to simply “believe the women.” There are reasons for statutes of limitations, and they include the fact that memories are fragile.In reality we don’t remember everything that “we remember.” We remember enough to be able to fill in the blanks and make a relatively full picture. But as I became painfully aware about 15 years ago during Mother’s decline with Alzheimer’s Disease, if you lose too much data in the wrong places, when you try to fill in the blanks what you become sure of may be the complete opposite of the truth.
People who are in such high dudgeon about “science deniers” should have to face up to real science about memory.
