Liberty Mutual Group Inc. plans to spend $14 million on an expansion in Carmel that is expected to create up to 400 high-wage jobs over the next four years, the company announced Tuesday morning.
To accommodate the expansion, the Boston-based insurer said it will lease 56,000 square feet in the Parkwood Crossing office complex, adjacent to a building at 350 E. 96th St. where it has existing operations. Liberty Mutual also has an office at 11611 N. Meridian St., which it opened in 2006.
Renovations on the new space are expected to begin in 2018 and be completed by spring.
Liberty Mutual employs more than 50,000 people in over 800 offices worldwide, including 1,430 in central Indiana.
New positions are expected to offer average salaries higher than the average Hamilton County wage of $56,836 per year.
Pending approval from the Indiana Economic Development Corp. board of directors, the IEDC is expected to offer Liberty Mutual up to $5.2 million in conditional tax credits and up to $300,000 in training grants based on the job-creation plans. The incentives hinge on the companys ability to meet hiring goals.
This expansion strengthens our already significant commitment to this city and state of Indiana, where we've long been impressed with its talented workforce and quality of life, Karen Whiteknact, Liberty Mutual Insurance senior vice president of talent & enterprise services, said in written remarks.
Founded in 1912, Liberty Mutual Insurance is the fourth largest property and casualty insurer in the country based on its 2016 direct written premium data and according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
It ranks 75th on the Fortune 100 list of largest U.S. corporations based on its 2016 revenue of more than $38 billion.
While this is all well and good, what America really needs is for our factories to return.
All of the paper-shuffling, pencil-pushing in the world, won’t do much if we are buying all our products, from China.
I just posted a thread about an Indian company building cars here.
Any more details on the Dr that was murdered other than gunshot during home invasion?
You’re right. I didn’t notice that.
However Mahindra does not really have any presence in America.
Which means they will be taking customers from someone else. Who?
Other importers, or American producers? Though I will say any production being added in America is the right thing.
That will require a government that respects its Constitutional limitations and has no desire to manipulate economic outcomes for partisan political purposes.
One should be coming along any day, now... :)
You better do more research. Mahindra already has a large presence here. https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/auto/news/in-make-in-india-season-an-indian-is-setting-shop-in-the-us/articleshow/61740628.cms
OK you’re right.
They’re very much a global giant. Thanks.
What we really, really need though, is for AMERICAN companies to come back.
That is what America badly needs. We need to buy things made in America once again.

************
Mahindra has in total 30 facilities having invested about USD 1 billion in the US and providing employment to some 30,000 people, Vajda said as he praised the contribution of Mahindra in American economy and strengthening India-US relationship.
You mean like Chrysler?
You’re right, I stand corrected.
All I am saying is what America needs, is for American companies to stop building up our biggest competitor (China) and to bring production back to the US.
That is what we need. Build up America for a change. All computers, are made in China. Even yours. Most cell phones are made in China. Some in Korea, and elsewhere. The list is very very long, and continues to get ever worse.
America needs to produce things once again.
Hamilton county IN is one of the fastest growing, highest median income places in the US right now.
you simply would not believe all of the housing construction going on right now.
One development near where I am working is to be home for 1100 homes in the million dollar and up range. golf course, huge clubhouse with multiple indoor pools, etc.
And then come the businesses, hospitals and services. (too bad the roads come in last, after the tax base builds).
Landscapers are every flippin where. And pet care services are getting quite creative. Gourmet bakeshops for the Furry Friends, Doggy Day Cares, mobile dog washes, and I got to see, for the first time, a business that comes around just to pick up the dog poop out of your yard and leave treats for Fido to find.
You can’t spit around here without spitting on a John Deere
Don’t worry.
They are even now, bringing in foreign competition, to drive even those sort of companies into BK.
Think I’m kidding?
America needs to be pro-American industry. For a change. For the entire last generation and a half, both political parties have sold THOUSANDS of American companies for foreign businesses.
For a minority interest, in the foreign company.
They have all been sold out. America needs to rebuild.
With them, or without them.
It is time to start.
Should have started at least ten years ago, in fact.
Agreed.
I live in Hamilton County. It is so Pollyanna you would not believe it. 1000s of roundabouts means no traffic stress. Low (Very low) housing cost for magnificent new construction. Great schools. Really good food scene (Restaurants all ethnicities) Great employment oppertunities in almost all fields. Low crime... really low. Grocery chain test market / battle space so low food and sundries cost. Waterfront living in 3000 sq ft + for about 300K on a lake that is 7 by 2 miles. Heck even our Aldi is 3 times the size of any I have seen with a wine/beer aisle (Yes both sides and about 30 foot long.) I have an indoor gun range 1/4 mile from my house and a gun store 1/4 mile the other way and an outdoor range 2 miles away. Indy is surrounded by its donut counties. The city sucks (less than most.) Each county has its own character. North and north east and north west are the wealthiest. They are all friendly and warm. We are the shiny spot in the rust belt. It is why Trump had one of his rallies less than a 1/4 mile from my house.
Good luck on pinning this down
“Low crime...really low.”
I have read several stories and seen some Colin Flaherty videos about home invasions in parts of Hamilton County and many more in Indy proper. The crime in Indy and Marion County is getting nearly as bad as that in it’s larger neighbor 180 miles to the northwest and is beginning to spill over into the surrounding counties. Hopefully, it won’t become too widespread.
It is why I am so adamantly opposed to mass transit from downtown. The dintdo’s need to stay where they are.
Major crimes where I live for the last 2 or 3 years:
Drug deal beating death....Dintdo’s
Liquor Store robbery.......Out of state doper
Bank robbery...............Dintdo’s
Car jacking................Dintdo
