POLL: Do you believe the sexual misconduct allegations against Senate nominee Roy Moore?
Yes
No
I'm not sure
It may be "situationally" wrong, but I doubt that you could justify calling it "fundamentally" wrong.
Technology has created opportunities that didn't exist 150 years ago and which hadn't existed for thousands of years. Expectations for women in 2017 are a new exception and never constituted the rule for most of recorded history.
Life before, say, 1850, could be short and cruel. Having enough to eat was a daily challenge for the majority of people. Attempting to satisfy sexual urges outside of marriage resulted in incredible hardship for the woman. Marriage was the way that she formed a partnership which would provide the basics for her and the children. There was very little "work" available that wasn't physical labor. Women were not competetive for the more demanding chores that produced food and other necessities.
If a woman found a man capable of supporting a household, pretty much regardless of age, and the man was willing to produce a family with her, that was probably going to be a good deal. Such a partnership freed up the man to do the hard labor for more hours per day resulting in more food.
The woman's work was sewing and mending clothes, preparing and preserving food, tending fires, and hundreds of other tasks that required less physical strength but were essential to life. If she could do these things and mind the kids, then the partnership could prosper and create new households in the next generation. For most people, that is how success was measured.
Today in the U.S., success for women has come to mean getting at least a batchelor's degree and entering the work force. A common problem has become that some women are earning degrees in worthless nonsense that has no economic value and the cost of which the woman will be paying for decades. It looks like a "fundamentally" better situation but for some it is a trap that only gets recognized when no job appears and no marriage proposal is forthcoming.
No.
Really? Sure about that?
I'm not trying to make it sound weird, it is weird (as in "foreign") to myself and from what I'm reading and hearing, many others who are not from the South.
I'm seeking to understand.
You may want to get in touch with Kevin Spacey, he's far more likely to satisfy your request.
F for effort. F for results. Thanks for playing.
When I was 18/19, being head over heels for a 31 year old man was exhilarating.
I still have his letters.
I still read them once in a while.
His memory still comes unbidden to me, apropos of nothing. I last saw him over 30 years ago.
“My first taste of love, oh bittersweet, like strawberry wine.”
No.
Perhaps 16 year old girls were more mature in a day and age when “good girls” and “gentlemen” maintained societal propriety and decorum, and young ladies were taught proper behavior, as well as how to “keep house”. That day is long gone for much of our society. I’m not sure there was much of that left in 1977, either. I, personally, would not have been comfortable dating a man more than 3 or 4 years older than me, at any stage of my life, let alone one twice my age. It would be like dating my dad. Nor would I be comfortable with my daughters dating or marrying a man twice their age, especially if they were 16.
HOWEVER, not everyone thinks like I do, and my opinions are not the arbiter of what is right or wrong. If the parents felt their daughters were level headed enough to date Mr. Moore, they would know that best. I don’t believe the accusations, at any rate.
From 40 years ago? It was a different world then. I lived in it. The statue of limitations on rape in Alabama is 3 years. If she didn’t come forward before ... then she should get over it ... or stop lying.
I think this was in ‘79.
Both of my grandmother’s married at 16 and were mothers by 17. (Southern by the grace of God.)
I never read or heard or saw any. Maybe you did; if so you can post it.
Notice Roy Moore's latest statement today: while he started dating his wife when she was in her 20's, he first "noticed her" when she was "15 or 16..."
More evidence he had a thing for young girls when he was in his late 20's. Creepy.
That wasn’t at all unusual back in those days.....heck my sisters class were always dating the guys who had already graduated....
You’re a south basher who doesn’t understand the true definition of pedophilia
In other words you suck like your pal Spacey you seem fond of
You a splittail?
I can’t tell
I take it easy on girls who wanna fight.....it’s a southern thing
Way over your large squarehead
I remember you early in as anti Trump?
Did you ever turn around?
Oh please. You got owned and it took you this long to respond?
I take it easy on girls who wanna fight.....its a southern thing
Well you're definitely a southern girl so that statement makes sense on its own.
I still don't understand your statement "Pedophilia my ass" which would indicate your more of a Kevin Spacey kinda guy. Are you a tranny? Still in the closet or something?
BTW: More proof you can't get your own facts straight, I was never an anti-Trumper. I was on the Trump train pretty early.
You on the other hand appear to be on the Pedophilia Tranny Train.
Look, it's too easy to insult you. You leave yourself wide open (Kevin Spacey I'm sure would like that about you) so why don't you go try again with someone a little more your speed, say in the 85-95 IQ range?
Have a nice day.
I’ve been wrong before-—according to new updated info right here on FR, “the accusations are falling apart”-—I still don’t like Moore (and I don’t think Trump does either) but as he says “We don’t need a Liberal in that seat”-— with 2 candidates like this we ( or I at least) are put into a position of having to come to the defense of someone who may be falsely accused of “crimes” committed long long ago, primarily BECAUSE we perceive the bogus nature of such, and because they are from Allred whose media strategies are well-known, and are designed to serve a well-known Agenda. So one again, for me at least, it’s the proverbial “lesser of two evils” choice.
