The Greatest Action Movies of All Time
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 11/14/2017 | J Hines

The greatest action movies of all time starring some of the best action stars to have ever fought on screen. The best action movies tend to be the ones where we get a little substance to go along with the shooting; a little banter along with the battles. This list has some of the most awesome action films of all time.

This list of greatest action movies ever has a mix of one man renegades (Die Hard), extraterrestrial thrills (Alien), and science fiction dreams brought to reality on the big screen (Terminator, Jurassic Park).

You’ll even find some great comedic performances among the gun fights, smack talking, and explosions. Heck, you could probably fill a New Jersey size dump with all the stuff that gets blown up in these action films.

The list covers a broad time range as well with nearly as many classic action movies making the list as newer, big budget CGI action-fest. This is a fan ranked list compiled from Reddit and Ranker, not based from IMDB. Without further adieu these are the greatest action films:

What other action movies would you add or what's your list? See the rest of our action movies of all time list here.

Without further adieu...

It's ado, not adieu. Shouldn't you be in school or something? Everything you post looks like it's written by a 7th grader.

This was a war movie; however, war = action.
One of the BEST and still enjoy watching after these many years.
“Where Eagles Dare”

The Terminator gets my vote for #1.

That pulsing soundtrack and the relentless pursuit by the CSM-101 left me drained when I saw it in the theater way back when...1984? I haven't seen anything like it since.

"Hard Times" with Charles Bronson. "The Emperor of The North" with Lee Marvin and Earnest Borgnine. "Rocky" with Stallone. I could go on...there were so many..."Mysterious Island" and "Forbidden Planet"...

“Where Eagles Dare”

I always get a chuckle out of that one. The lead, Richard Burton, is a Brit. His character is a Brit. They both speak like Brits. Yet he was sent on a mission to infiltrate a German fortress to liberate an Allied general.

Yet at no point does Burton speak with anything but a Brit accent. Even when he is on the phone speaking with a German general trying to prove/validate his false identity.

"I'm Richard Buuuuurton, damn you. I've done Shakespeare for the Queen and I'll play this part as I damned well please."

“Heat” certainly had the best gun fight. “Casino” is a classic and Devo’s version of “Satisfaction” always makes me smile.

Yes! And they are very well organized in sections with cute little names like "Elizabeth", "Asbury Park", "Neptune" and "Jersey City"

And, one of my favorites of all time: Collateral with Tom Cruise. 2004

A very well done movie where he plays a contract killer on a big mission is LA and Jamie Fox is a cab driver.

Dont miss this one.
