I met a guy who was the most liberal guy I’ve ever met in person: the car full of bumper stickers, the leftist t-shirts (he was able to keep his job at a bookstore in spite of wearing a “Prick Perry” shirt to work). One day, he disappeared and I was told he was in Japan opposing whaling ships. Later, I was told he and his girlfriend had moved to Seattle to live in a commune (they couldn’t hack it and were back shortly).

Thing is, one-on-one, he was a really nice guy. And I frickin’ hate liberals. Of course, I never talked politics with him and he never knew I was conservative. I’m sure things would have changed quick if he had.

Most recently, I’ve heard he’s making six figures as a car company exec. Yay communism?

I said years ago, the very beginning of the community organizers administration. That given the right circumstances these people would usher us in cattle cars where the tracks end with smoke stacks billowing. And your chipper Prius driving vegan neighbor would turn a blind eye. That statement was met with much furrowed-brow skepticism. That didn’t surprise me. Nor do the pages of history, where in every instance the outcome would have been far different had the victims had a formidable means of defense.
