Thanks Tom, thanks a lot and may God guide, bless, and protect you on your way to your next port of call, and upon your arrival.
Well its all right, even if they say youre wrong Well its all right, sometimes you gotta be strong Well its all right, as long as you got somewhere to lay Well its all right, every day is Judgment Day
Well its all right, riding around in the breeze Well its all right, if you live the life you please Well its all right, even if the sun dont shine Well its all right, were going to the end of the line Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne End of the Line
The world lost one of its premier rock singer/songwriters with the recent death of Tom Petty. His music and lyrics have played on the background soundtrack of my life for decades beginning with the song Breakdown in 1978
North Florida knew him well. Now imagine Ronnie Van Zandt and Tom Petty jammin away.
It would be an overstatement to call him a “musical genius”. But he sure as hell could rock!
Seemed like a very genuine and personable guy on his SiriusXM show. RIP
I disagree. Songwriting is an art, and he was one of the very best ever.
You don’t have to live like a refugee ..or ship them into your country by the thousands for that matter.
Anyhow, RIP ( rock in peace )
What’s a “musical genius?”
T.Petty wrote dozens of hit records but didn’t consider himself a “musician.” He was the greatest singer songwriter in American history.
I take it he’s REALLY dead this time?
He was a gifted singer, and a gifted songwriter, but he was not really a “singer-songwriter”: that is a term for persons who focus on intimate, personal lyric and music - often solo.
Tori Amos, a quintessential singer-songwriter, is renowned for her concerts comprised of only herself and her piano.
Tom Petty was a rock-and-roll-band man, and one of the best. He had a lot of help, from the Heartbreakers, and from exceptional musicians like Jeff Lynne.
I remember a story from a neighbor of his who was amazed at how many hours a day Petty would practice on his guitar. This was the “old school” way for professional musicians.
He won’t “come around here no more.” I hope he’s “into the great wide open,” “learning to fly!”
Thank you for all the great tunes, Tom!
Runnin' Down a Dream is my favorite. RIP Tom.
I’m sick about it. I loved evey song he recorded.
One of the best rhythm guitarists ever.
Musical genius? How many of them have there been? But Tom Petty survived for decades in a medium - business - where talents come and go with dizzying speed - and survived the pitfalls that catch many others. So good for him. Rock on Tom!
I loved him. I remember exactly where I was standing when I first heard Breakdown. I was addicted at first hear.
One of my best friends who loved him
Is dead. Enjoy his music up there, honey.
RIP. Talented, Though I couldn’t stand his music or his left wing politics
RIP.
Yeah, thanks for the lecture. The days of Arlo Guthrie are over.
Interesting, looks like from now on they are going to play “I Won’t Back Down” after “We Are The Boys”, at the end of the third quarter......
