Check out “Rivers of Blood” speech from 1969. Powell saw it coming , he was like Trump but even more blunt.
UPIP had it’s leadership election last week.
It was conducted under the first past the post system, less than 13K party members voted.
It was won by former Cop and Army officer Henry Bolton, with just under 30% of the vote. He appears to be a political non-entity and used to be a Lib Dem. Doesn’t sound like an inspired choice.
But he’s better than the runner up, Irish chick Anne Marie Waters, who’s run for office in the past on the Labour ticket and was deselected as a UKIP candidate in the last election for being a kook more suited for the BNP.
Third place guy, London Assembly member David Kurten sounds like he’d have been my choice.
The 4th place dude, John Rees-Evans is a sore loser, gonna start his own party, he got 2K votes.
They’re polling a 4%, double what they got in the election, but appear to have firmly descended into joke status. I figured they were done but this is a harder fall than I figured on.
Could revive as a political force is Brexit fails to materialize otherwise they will vanish into the ether like the Reform Party (US).
