An NAIA school in Southwest Missouri has taken its support of the national anthem at sporting events to the next level.
Not only will athletes and coaches at College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Mo., stand at attention for the Star Spangled Banner, the opponent will as well.
Or the Bobcats wont play.
The school calls it, No pledge, No Play, and school president Jerry C. Davis said he has no problem taking his ball and going home. The school has revised its contracts in competitions in all sports to reflect the pledge.
We want to make it clear that we are not going to participate in a game where we think disrespect for the national anthem or the flag is being displayed, Lewis told The Star. I dont think its a partisan issue. Its an American issue, how we feel about our country.
The pledge is a response to protests that started in 2016, with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick taking a knee during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial injustice. The anthem protests have picked up momentum this season in several forms.....

I am sure I can find some of my NFL money to give to this fine institution!
Thank God SOMEONE in academia is fighting FOR the USA!
Awesome job !
They got the message. Mizzou didn’t.
THE most American school in the USA!
Liberty does not take a knee.
I worked with Jerry Davis in 1965. He was quarterback of our flag football team. He was also staff president of around 450 college age staffers.
A fine man.
Meanwhile I was in Kindergarten.
Mr. Davis, it’s persons like you who make persons like me PROUD AMERICANS. Thank you, sir. May you continue to be a force in the battles to come.
For those who are not aware:
The College of the Ozarks charges no tuition for full-time students, due to its student work program and donations. The program requires students to work 15 hours a week at an on-campus work station and two 40-hour work weeks during breaks. A summer work program is available to cover room and board costs. The college refers to itself as “Hard Work U.”, and places emphasis in “character” education.
Thus, my comment #5
This is my dad’s alma mater. Proud of them.
About time we see a college stand for America.
Sounds like a really old-school school, like 200 year old. Schools didn’t always charge tuition.
Anyone besides me notice that the article calls him “Davis” and then calls him “Lewis” in the next paragraph?
There are no editors anymore.
He sat. He only took a knee later.
Good.
He has a son named “Jeff Davis”.
They call him “Lewis” all the way through after that.
Good, but I think he should declare his team the winner and kick the other team out of the building ASAP.
