School libraries around the country are being shuttered.Not because they don't have plenty of books, but because they would have to pay additional union employees to operate a library for students who (as mentioned above) often can't read. In some schools, parents have volunteered to operate libraries, but the unions won't allow it.
For the Children, you know. A child can't be allowed near a book without a certified NEA member standing by.

You would think an advance party from the White House would have contacted the school before giving the books, giving them an option to decline the donation. The article implies the donation was completed. I guess the lesson to learn is to ask people if they want something before you give it to them.
