Rev. Jesse Jackson said President Trumps criticism of NFL players kneeling during the national anthem were an example of the slave-master-servant mentality" in a interview with The New York Times.
They should all kneel, not against the flag, but against the interference by Mr. Trump with their First Amendment rights, Jackson said.
If the cotton pickers dont pick cotton, the industry doesnt move; the N.F.L. and N.B.A. players dont play the game, it doesnt move.
Jacksons comments follow Trumps weekend criticism of NFL players who choose to kneel during The Star-Spangled Banner," a protest started by quarterback Colin Kaepernick as a statement against racial injustice.
"Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now,' " Trump said at a Friday night rally in Alabama. " 'He is fired.' "
The remarks from Trump led to widespread protests at NFL games across the county on Sunday, as well as criticism from athletes in multiple professional sports leagues.
The president doubled down on his position, saying those who do not stand for the anthem are disrespecting the United States.
In comments to reporters on Sunday, Trump insisted his criticism of the NFL players is not about race.
This has nothing to do with race. I never said anything about race. This has nothing to do with race or anything else. This has to do with respect for our country and respect for our flag, Trump said.
Gee, Jesse, don’t you get that the real slave/owner mentality is right before your very eyes?
The white owners make black players run around a field and do what the owners want.
The NFL is racist!
He just called NFL players millionaire slave cotton pickers. I never got more than $3 per hundred pounds. Blacks got the same pay.
PRESIDENT TRUMP did not initiate the NFL boycott. He was voicing the sentiment of those who were already turning off the games.
And “bending the knee” like a slave to the leftist agenda is not?
ANTI-NFL LIVES MATTER
Oh, noes, not the Reveruuuuund! ...
How can anyone really tell what this ass is saying about anything?
Does this idiot think football ceases to exist without the NFL?
I wonder when folks will realize that all those who have to contextualize race into everything are so emotionally cripples as to have their opinions meaningless....those who howl for “diversity” have such a narrow mindset they epitomize that which they claim to see around every corner and their voices cry out against..............themselves...
If the NFL disappeared tomorrow, the earth would keep spinning. I'm pretty sure anyway.
Well hello, trebby ol’ shoe.
Jackson? he is still alive?
ROFL
Maybe you wanna give back that award you gave him and disavow his contributions to your organization’s and the private dinners you shared...as friends...?
“Taking a knee” has always been a posture of subservience. Maybe that is what the Left is trying to force into the American psyche. I think it looks stupid. Jerry Jones looked mindless.
JJ what took you so long to respond? I am guessing you waited until the the weekend was over for maximum attention... Just as any self respecting attention whore would do.
“And?”
Exactly. There is no societal ‘need’ for the NFL or the NBA. We’ve ‘survived’ player strikes before, and no one suffered except the networks who lost advertising money. This mentality that we are the ones who are lucky to be graced with the opportunity to watch them play a game while they make millions is ludicrous. Until there is an apology by the players for politicizing the sport that allows them to live at a level few Americans will ever experience, I will never watch the NFL again.
Well, I understand that there are many blacks (including many who play in the NFL) who have an emotional reaction to performing service for a white man. The money they get has nothing to do with it. The feels they get are “slavery”.
It is unfortunate that politicians, black and white, have copped on to the fact that they can weaponize these feelings, and that the entertainment industry, from “Roots” to “Django Unchained” has copped on to the fact that they can cash in on them.
America, as presently constituted, cannot survive the open promotion of race war. And she won’t.
Yes, this is all about the “Reverand” Action Jackson shaking down the brethren for yet another “offering.”
This is just like the skits Flip Wilson used to do on his variety show, he was the reverand of the Church of What’s Happening Now.
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one to notice the irony in taking a knee to protest racism, as in “on your knees, boy.”
