Either you believe that Trump is a fool who, despite being surrounded by a very diverse group of very intelligent people, is backing the wrong candidate instead of an obviously a better choice in the opinion of an internet forum - or that he is aware of something or pursuing a strategy that you’re not aware of.

Occam’s principle is that the more assumptions you have to make, the more unlikely an explanation is. I don’t assume that internet posters have better insight than the President of the United States does.

You don’t drain the swamp by campaigning on behalf of the swamp. That’s the kind of anti-logic Obots bought into whenever Obama did something stupid. I support Trump, but not to the point of believing the irrational.

Strange is in McConnell’s pocket. Can you name a worse swamp creature than McConnell?

Republican leaders are going to endorse the incumbent unless said incumbent gets caught with a dead girl or a live boy.

Same with the NRA. They will always endorse the incumbent as long as the incumbent is satisfactory in their eyes.

I love the part about putting the military on the southern border. Moore gets it. If Trump is serious about stopping illegal immigration, he can order the military down there right now.

Incidentally, I have believed in and supported Trump through thick and thin. My posting history bears this out. I’ve been one of his staunchest defenders. But Luther Strange is a bridge too far. He is the swamp personified.

Btw, no one who says to trust Trump’s opposition to a good man like Moore even offers a theory as to what’s going on. They just say blindly trust. That is cultish. One of the 4-D chess people needs to pipe up and offer a theory. Throw us a bone. At least hint at the grand scheme that unfolds after McConnell gets his newest yes-man and a unique opportunity to put a strong anti-swamper in the Senate has been lost.

Just like economics, politics is not a zero sum game and even more so. My first retort to the one making the accusation that Trump was played was specific to that assertion.

The fact that you can’t even offer a *theory* as to why electing yet another swamp creature would be better than electing a swamp-fighter says it all.

I think the outcome may hinge on how successful Strange is in getting crossover democrats to vote for him in the runoff.

You cannot vote in both primaries. If you voted in the dem primary, you cannot then vote in the republican one. Unlike NY, Ca, Chicago, and other liberal bastions, Alabama election officials are not as naive or as crooked as the ones in those liberal bastions.

There is nothing that will save Strange, the writing was on the wall for his political defeat the moment Moore put his hat in the ring.

His home isn't Sweet Home Alabama, its a plot of swamp land in Washington DC.

That's OK, after the runoff, he'll have to get ready for "When that Midnight Choo-Choo Leaves for Alabam'".

As I'm sure you know, the typical explanation of Occam is "if you hear the sound of hoofed animals, assume horses, not zebras." The unstated first assumption is that you are in the wide-open plains of the western US. However, if you were unable to see other animals for clues as to where you are, it is equally possible that you are on the geographically-similar veld/veldt of southern Africa. Thus, your very first assumption can take you down the path to an incorrect conclusion.

In this case, the shortest evidence chain pointing toward the assumptions under discussion seems strongest for Trump choosing a creature of The Swamp over a candidate that appeals to the base that elected Trump. You appear to favor the longer evidence chain of assumptions. It is certainly possible you are correct and only time will tell. Have a great FReepin' day/weekend - looking forward to Tuesday!

Yea, right. Because I don’t try to PROJECT my capacity to know what others are thinking or know that I don’t, does say it all. Dirty Harry had it 100% correct. Now, you go figure it out what that was.

There you go again. Quit trying to project your limited knowledge of all the underlying facts. I trust him to a point of my limited knowledge and my worship is reserved for only one.

Were I an Alabaman, I would support Judge Moore. I also support President Trump, and did before he won the nomination.

Why he would support Strange is not that complicated, however. As head of the Party, he has to work with other key players. That does not mean he is going to give away the farm. It does mean that sometimes, in the interests of getting specific legislation through Congress, he needs to wheel and deal on side issues like giving Strange the benefit of the doubt, as to whether Strange will support the President on coming issues. (I suspect that Strange--not the President--is the one making the major concessions, but admit that I have no inside knowledge. There are strong historic precedents for such an expectation.)
