"We have been attacked," Morgan Freeman stoically announces. "We are at war."
The Oscar-winning actor has played the president of the United States in a time of crisis (in 2008's "Deep Impact"), but this time he's speaking as himself, as a citizen.
In a video from the activist news organization ATTN:, Freeman encourages Americans of every ideological stripe to look with clear eyes at Russia's interference in the 2016 U.S. election. Russian President Vladimir Putin, he argues, wasn't just punking the U.S. He was trying to undermine the country's government and values.
"Imagine this movie script," Freeman says, and then calmly lays out Putin's rise from KGB spy for a superpower to dictator of a bedraggled former superpower. So Putin, Freeman says, "angry at the collapse of his motherland, plots a course for revenge."
His target: You and me. The U.S. intelligence community has concluded that Putin instructed his hackers and disinformation experts to exploit Americans' divisions to make them "distrust their media, their political processes, even their neighbors. And he wins."
Special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating possible collusion between Donald Trump's presidential campaign and Russia, but Freeman doesn't accuse the president of working with or even winking at the Russians. He does, however, call on Trump to finally acknowledge the seriousness of what Putin's regime did and to direct "every resource available to conduct a thorough investigation to determine exactly how this happened."
Will this video or other efforts by ATTN: and the non-partisan Committee to Investigate Russia bring Republicans and Democrats together on the issue of Russia's involvement in the 2016 election? That's unlikely. But, as always, Freeman gives a powerful, memorable performance.

WELL IF MORGAN FREEMAN SAYS WE’RE AT WAR, THEN DAMMIT WE’RE AT WAR!!!
He DID play a president you know. :)
All of a sudden, almost overnight, every prominent democrat is McCarthy and they will be asking us if we are now or ever have been a member of FR :)
We have a much, much larger challenge than Russia.
Russia is so last century. What we are facing now, is that China has done to us, exactly what we did to the Soviet Union.
They have out-produced us. And we all have sold out to them.
Not Russia. China.
What's up with THAT?
Not only that, they actually hacked into the brains of millions of American citizens and made them believe that Hillary Clinton was a lying, cheating, corrupt piece of shiite with no clear message beyond “I have a vagina” and “Trump is mean”. They must have hacked into Hillary’s brain too and forced her to not campaign in Wisconsin and Michgan and to basically declare war against the 5 million members of the NRA. Incredible stuff.
Wrong. America’s greatest threat is internal: Progressivism and unchecked illegal immigration.
Why is it Democrats always want war?
Well I’m with you that unchecked illegal immigration is a threat to America. A big threat. I completely agree.
The thing is, a whole lot of so-called “conservatives”, are completely sold out on illegal immigration.
They are a big part, of the problem.
When the State Department wrote up the strategy of interferring in the 2011 Russian legislative election...with Google, Facebook, Twitter and social media leading the charge....did they consider that they were declaring the US as part of some ‘war strategy’ against Russia? And six months later....when the same crew came to get into the Russia presidential election....did they realize the same ‘war strategy’ was going to be picked up by Putin and re-used for 2016 against the US?
These are all simple consequences...you open up a Pandoras Box and you get the same treatment later.
And in 1996 when Clinton-Gore met with Chi-Coms to trade missile technology for illegal campaign contributions?
Where was the fricking outrage???
He should go back to decorating a bar. He made more sense.
Perhaps Morgan Freeman should try studying history a little bit. There is no evidence that Putin did anything during this election, but there is plenty of evidence that the USSR went to great lengths to influence American culture and politics, by planting moles in places where they could impact opinions. Places like schools, universities, the news media, and Hollywood. By the looks of it, they were wildly successful in turning those venues into far-left propaganda machines. So successful, in fact, that they continue to crank out vast quantities of Soviet-style propaganda despite the fall of the USSR decades ago. And many of the propaganda purveyors seem completely unaware that they are full-fledged propagandists for the USSR.
Morgan Freeman, if you are so worried about Russia, perhaps you should examine exactly how much Soviet style propaganda you have internalized without even realizing it. Even now, the threat is not Putin, but the USSR.
No, Morgan, the media did that all on their own.
their political processes,
No, Morgan, the Democrats and the Establishment Republicans did that all on their own.
even their neighbors.
Given that you are not my neighbor, Morgan, I trust mine.
Amazing. They really believe their own propaganda.
Why in the world would Putin want a US President that believes ‘America first’ and a strong upgraded military instead of one he has snookered in deals, sold him uranium, would do anything for a buck?
Hey democrats, THINK!
I know, impossible.
LOL, Scott Adams is really a funny guy who knows how to get to the heart of of things.
No they don’t; they are re-writing history.
How about Baltimore, Chicago, Newark? This war impacts many more Americans...
Hollywood starts its own McCarty’ish investigation aka More Liberal BS
Democrats always had a soft spot for Russia up until it threw out its communist form of government.
