Amazon Is Planning a Second HQ — And It Could Create 50,000 Jobs (Many six-figure jobs)

Amazon is planning to build a second headquarters that could measure up to 8 million square feet — and create 50,000 jobs, many of which pay $100,000 or more.

The company is calling the second site "HQ2." It is asking cities to bid on the project, which is expected to cost $5 billion to build and operate. Amazon is prioritizing metropolitan areas with at least 1 million people.

“We expect HQ2 to be a full equal to our Seattle headquarters,” Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said in a statement. “Amazon HQ2 will bring billions of dollars in up-front and ongoing investments, and tens of thousands of high-paying jobs. We’re excited to find a second home.”

The site it ultimately chooses will also need to meet a number of requirements, including a strong labor pool, being "business friendly," and it will have to be no farther than 45 minutes from an international airport.

Wherever Amazon chooses to build HQ2, the company is stressing that it will be a full-fledged headquarters and won't operate as a satellite office....

Detroit is the latest major city to see an influx of whites who may not find the suburbs as alluring as their parents(2015, so old)

I thought I read somewhere Bezil is putting it out there for cities to bid. Nothing like welfare for the rich.

Would have to think Austin is on the list since Whole Foods HQ is there. May also be somewhere like Indianapolis where they have a large presence, god airport and central US location.

To do what?

Somebody has to deliver your groceries after Bezos puts Albertsons, Kroger, Safeway, Food Lion, Trader Joe's, Super Valu, et al out of business.

Somebody has to deliver your news after Bezos buys ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, NYT, McClatchy, Fox, and Viacom.

Somebody has to deliver your broadband after he buys Comcast, Charter, AT&T, Verizon FIOS, et al.

“Hgatna”

Isn’t that the capital of Ghana? I think the RFP specifies the US for HQ2.

Snicker.

The capital of Guam.

There is a good port, underutilized airport low business taxes and a population that need jobs. Too bad there isn’t but 140,000 non-US military people here.

And municipalities with over a million in population will get priority in consideration.

Amazon will site where you couldn’t pay me to live. Guess the good news is they won’t be ruining some smaller city.

“Baltimore? Detroit? Newark? Des Moines?”...

Hope they avoid any “demodummie” controlled areas.

The socialist Mayor of Pittsburgh is already making a pitch to Amazon about this.

There is no nsuch thing as a second HQ. What they really mean to say but cant is that they want to move their company out of Seattle. All these progressive libs want to move out of one the most progressive lib towns in America ?? No no no no..that simply cannot be the case. They just need more space.

Durham, NC already has a distribution center so RTP would be better than Charlotte. There is a labor force nearby from Raleigh, Durham and many small towns. There is already enough darn traffic here to make Seattle folks feel at home.

Mixed blessing. Bezos is such a liberal and you can be assured they will hire liberals. In the wrong state it could turn a red state blue

Unless they get one mother of a bribe. And given our cesspool of a state leguslature, that is a distinct possibility.

If Amazon does pick NYS, I have one word for taxpayers: BOHICA.

The company would have to build two equal sized buildings on each end of that island so that it doesn’t tilt everything into the Pacific.

I was thinking more urban, but in aggregate RTP would make the > 1 million population desire.

So once again we see the well-established pattern reemerge, only a very large scale in this case. Amazon, a liberal company, in a very liberal city realizes how messed up liberals have made their city. Thus, they seek flight to a "business friendly" (read: Conservative) area of the country.

So they move out of their liberal cesspool to a conservative location and then they proceed to completely foul their new location by demanding the same corrupt liberal policies they sought to escape.
