On Wednesday, an agreement was made between President Trump and leading Democrats Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi on a short-term bump in raising the debt ceiling. Major Republican players are extremely annoyed that the president seems to have completely cut them out of this and just gone his own way.
And heres the thing, Trump was most likely right to do this. He has not had much support from Republicans for his policies and he has had zero support from Democrats or the MSM. He may just have found a way to deal with both in one small meeting.
The deal was cut ostensibly to allow funds for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, but there is a much bigger picture behind this.
Firstly, Trump has been lambasted by the press for not getting things done, he just has, and its for funding that not even the most anti-Trump anchor can give him criticism for. By being the guy to take the hit for getting relief money out there, he has become bullet proof from media attacks (at least on this decision). It is the Democrats and the Republicans who now look like obstructionists on necessary relief funds.

Republicans are not one party. Trump needs to get things done. And republicans can’t do it. So he is trying the other side. Remember that Ryan and McConnell are not Trump type republicans. They are not for the wall. They are not not behind Trump when it comes to Antifa. And they are not against immigration.
Schumer wants infrastructure funding. Pelosi wants more housekeepers. It’s more than what the Republicans offered to raise the debt ceiling.
Ryan approved 8 billion in the House.
Trump intervened and made a deal with Schumer and Pelosi.
Sasse introduced something to vote for just Hurricane relief.
vote was something like 75 to 25 and it was voted down. I don’t remember numbers exactly
I know right. Trump owes them nothing.
He is an independent, that is why the GOPE is pixed
Agreed. Some are more conservative than Trump, some less. But they all owe him loyalty, and he has been more than willing to work with them...and they won’t work with him. They’re either grandstanding by showing off how much more conservative they are, or sucking up to the press by showing how much they hate Trump (think McCain).
I’m sick and tired of people who can’t work together. And obviously, Trump is too. And I say this as someone who voted for him only because he was the GOP candidate and not because I liked him (although I have come to do so). You have to be practical, and Trump is practical.
Question: Will it or will it not get the fence built?
He gave a vulnerable Democrat a campaign commercial yesterday.
Who knows? We have more immediate problems, and the GOP is dropping the ball on all of them. They could have had it made in the shade if they had approved the repeal/change of Obamacare, which is now stressing out people like my 30-something middle class kids because they can’t afford an insurance payment higher than their mortgage payment. And the GOP did nothing.
“Exactly. The GOPe plan is punt the football past the 2018 elections. In other words no plan.”
And the 2020 elections...and the 2022 elections...and the 2024 elections etc....
Why did he do it?
To give a great big F**CK YOU to Paul Ryan, who after doing his best to thwart Trump’s agenda for 7 months, couldn’t wait to rush to CNN to trash Trump and pander to the bottom feeding Trump haters at CNN after Charlottesville.
Corker is all BS.
The GOPe plan is to take bribes from as many lobbyists as possible and salt away the funds for a rainy day (i.e., in case they lose their seats).
Everything else is a low priority.
EASY! Cause the G D RINO aint done chit for him!@ No Repeal, no Wall, no Tax Reform! He’s had to do everything thru EO and enough is enough!!!
Maybe McCain will work with Trump now that Chucky and Nancy are.
Those same dems that work with him today will gleefully knife him in the back tomorrow. Pizz off the GOPe badly enough, and they will team up with those dems to impeach him. The senate WILL convict him too.
Agreed, and my comfort in this whole thing comes from that vapid moron Ben Sasse who is livid! Good!!! I never agree with benny on any thing
What are they going to do, NOT implement his agenda? Like what Ryan and Yertle are doing.
