The devastating events through Houston and other parts of Texas have shown us not only the destructive power of hurricanes, but also, surprisingly, what we as humans really can be. In a world too often jaded by idiocy and recrimination, it is often a shock to realize how moved we can be by the plight of others.
Pictures are coming out showing folk carrying their pets through the waters; some over the shoulders and some in their arms, and each one is more moving than the last.

I agree, this speaks very well for Texans as a people.
When disaster hits we do see the need to work together.
I love everyone taking care of their pets, and I would bet that the shelters are not being overly restrictive about this either.
I would hope the feeling persists after the disaster is over.

America is still great except for some mentally ill liberals...they could make better use of their time and lives working for good instead of evil.
So you use pets and flooding to drive traffic to your blog?
What a great guy you are, I hope you are rewarded.
I hope you can help:
The SPCA of Texas - https://www.spca.org/
The SPCA of Louisiana - https://www.la-spca.org/
The Houston Humane Society - http://www.houstonhumane.org/
The Louisiana Humane Society - http://news.humanela.org/
What’ll it be tomorrow? Blankets donated to the shelters - read more at my blog? Water is receding - read more at my blog? Don’t buy cars that were flooded - read more at my blog.... Seems there will be an endless supply of headlines to exploit.
Ironic that someone using the “Restoring My Faith in Humanity” headline is eroding our faith in humanity. IMHO
Hopefully most shelters in the area were able to evacuate within the state last week ! I heard some were putting down animals that couldn’t get out which doesn’t seem right. It is better than being flooded in a cage which happened in Katrina but at least wait to see who is actually going to be impacted.
The morning after Hurricane Harvey tore into Texas, Gulf Coast residents were already trying to prepare for life after the destructive storm ― including Otis, the dog.
Tiele Dockens was checking out the damage for friends and family in Sinton, north of Corpus Christi, when she saw Otis on the street carrying a large bag of dog food.
It was after the storm this morning when I went to town to check damage on properties, Dockens told HuffPost on Saturday. Lots of people were out in their yards and streets cleaning up branches, trees and debris.
To Dockens, the golden retriever mix, who she only later learned was named Otis, was in survival mode just like everybody else.

A dog that accidentally got loose Friday night during Hurricane Harvey has become an unlikely symbol of Texas strength.
Otis, a German shepherd mix, got loose Friday night from a screened-in back porch in Sinton, Texas, while in the care of Salvador Segovia, 65. Segovia was watching the dog, who belongs to his 5-year-old grandson Carter who had fled the city due to flooding.
When Segovia went to check in on the dog Friday night, he was gone.
I kept yelling his name and yelling his name and he wasnt around, Segovia told Chron.com Saturday afternoon.
Segovia checked his porch Saturday morning and noticed Otis bag of dog food was missing. Segovia drove around his neighborhood looking for the pooch when he was flagged down by a neighbor who said they saw Otis walking around with the bag of food in his mouth.
Fellow neighbor Tiele Dockens also saw Otis and snapped a photo of him with his food that went viral. The image had been shared nearly 16,000 times by 4:50 pm on Saturday.
Segovia was able to track down Otis and bring him home before his grandson returned.
Otis is an all around special dog, Segovia said. Hes been instrumental in helping comfort Carter following numerous hospital visits for seizures and asthma. Otis is also a local celebrity.
Otis can go to Dairy Queen and he can get a hamburger. Hes the only dog allowed to lie down in front of the county court house, Segovia said. He also goes to H.E.B. Hes not a stray. Hes a good dog.

Thank-you for getting the animal rescue websites out. God Bless.
God bless the Texans for taking in the critters, too.
In my reptile forums, people outside of the flood zone are taking in reptiles of all sorts because their owners had to bug out with them in small containers unsuitable for more than a day or so of survival.
They’re also fishing the bats that live under the bridge out of the flood waters.

This is an awesome cattle drive.
[or maybe they’re herding dogs] :)

Thank-you for this thread posting and God Bless.
Thank-you for posting these two URLS. God Bless.
Definitely has the look - facial markings, AND feet - of a Shepherd, or maybe just a Malinois. Maybe part Golden, but I can tell those features apart a mile away and they’re not Golden/retriever.
Thank you.
Probably Asian immigrants making sure they have something to eat later.
The dog is almost as big as the kid.
Okaaaaaay.........LOL!
At this point in time, it's good to read about animals being rescued.............
