"Have you ever noticed how no one is smiling in the Louis Vuitton print ads (go ahead and Google it)? That’s code for inaccessible and a level of unattainability that is part of the exclusive nature of luxury. There are ways of placing powerful emotional and sub-conscious codes that trigger the desire for your brand.

Using JLo and Uma probably doesn't hurt either.

Great article! My Inner Retailer LOVES this kind of stuff.

Yeah, I NEVER made it to ‘luxury brand’ heights, BUT - I got a LOT of people to part with their hard earned dollars during the 18 years I was in Retail. (It was fun! It was a game!)

D&G must be sending FLOTUS Melania enough flowers to fill EVERY table in The White House these days! What an AMAZING opportunity for them to have her favor their clothing! And even I, who rarely carries a purse, LUSTS for those cute handbags she carries!

Another thought: Why weren’t they writing articles like THIS for the past DECADE? Could it be that Happy Days ARE Here Again? With Melania on board, LUXE is the New Normal? Sure beats eating kale salads, which is all FLOTUS Mooch had to offer, LOL!

They’re never smiling because they just broke the bank with the purchase.

If it isn’t on clearance at Wallyworld or sale days at the thrift store, this poor chap’s budget ain’t interested.

I buy high end and have for many many years. Handbags, shoes, and sunglasses seem to last forever. I have LV, Chanel, Prada, etc.
Was at a dock BBQ yesterday when my neighbor noticed my new Prada sunglasses and started talking about how she only buys $10 sunglasses at CVS and doesn’t understand why anyone would spend that amount of money. Then she says....out of curiosity can I try them? She put them on and said.....wow! Never would have guessed there was such a difference. So clear, so comfortable, so well made. I may have to rethink this. I just laughed. I paid $85 for them I think. Saks Off Fifth marked $119 and I had a 30% off coupon I had got for one item through email. When I told her that she said....yeah I’d pay it for them.
If you shop right you can buy really nice stuff. I love my high end brands.

I don’t think LV breaks JLo’s or Uma’s bank.

Just sayin’ :-)

My Best Ever find was a pair of designer sunglasses with case. I paid 99-cents for them at St. Vincent’s. I looked them up on line when I got home. $99.00! Score! I love them. They really are the BEST sunglasses I’ve ever owned. I’m going to be buried with them.

Purses, too. When I find a good price on quality, I’m on it. Shoes, bras, socks & undies are ALWAYS top-notch brands as well.

The rest of me wears (Designer) Thrift Store finds. Still have a, ‘Little Black Skirt’ from Halston that I found for $10 on a sales rack. Love that skirt for Weddings and Funerals. :)

Otherwise I’m wearing my Boggs Barn Boots and Carhart overalls & jackets out here on the farm. ;)

Haha I think I’m worse. You’ll find me with Prada sunglasses wearing Tiffany jewelry carrying a LV handbag and have on a pair of KMart yoga pants because they’re the most comfortable ones I’ve ever found. I buy them by the 5’s. I wear the capris all summer and the long ones with UGGs all winter. Lol. I do wear really nice tops I get off the clearance racks at Saks Off Fifth, Neiman Marcus Last Call, or Nordstroms Rack. I usually pay less than $15 for them though. Lol

That’s interesting - runway models are the same, basically scowling.
I always assumed they’re hungry, but now I learn it’s marketing.

1. Apple products might be good, but way overpriced due to successful marketing to fanboys.

2. Rolex is a good watch overall, but mediocre by Swiss standards and yet it is pretty much the only watch to retain any value after purchase thanks to marketing.

3. Tesla. Thanks to marketing and government rebates.

4. Diamonds. DeBeers is the ultimate marketing machine.

Hah ! ME TOO ! MY wife buys the cheapest crap she can possibly find, the moment she needs to find it.

I will save up for YEARS if I have to - to get the best. $300 pair of sunglasses ? She laughed when we met at me, thought of how stupid I was.

I have those glasses on me all the time. And they look and feel as if they were new. Of course, I also put them in their case the moment they are taken off my nose but still - These things won’t leave me.

Shoes are the big ones. I have no problem with $300 shoes. Shoes start at $300. Suits start at $1200. A good hat starts near $100. A wrist watch starts at about $1500 as well, and CAN NOT be found online.

You buy these things once. Once.

15 years ago I wanted a leather motorcycle jacket. I researched it for over a year, and found out about the original Schott jackets. I journeyed to New York City and went to Schott. They happily made me one and charged me $600 for it. It looks new, has not a single flaw on it and I beat on it.

Why does it cost $600 ? Because it should.

Wow! A man who appreciates quality. Good for you. Yeah, I take care of my stuff too. I have an LV bag that is about 15 years old now that is just starting to look a little worn. I carry it quite often as it’s my favorite bag. And when the time comes if I need to I can send it to LV to have it rebuilt. Can’t do that with Walmart crap. lol
Plus if I get tired of my stuff it’s still resellable.

I LOVE my UGGs, too! I have a brand new pair just waiting for colder weather! (Took me 6 years to wear out the old pair and that was with pretty much daily wear in the house.)
