Feminist vegan hopes the move will provoke people into discussing unfair treatment of women
A CAFE is making waves after it began charging blokes more money in a bid to close the gender pay gap.
The feminist vegan owner of Handsome Her eatery in Melbourne, Australia, is making them pay an 18 per cent man tax as well as giving women priority over seating.
Owner Alex OBrien told Broadsheet website: I do want people to think about it, because weve had this (pay discrepancy) for decades and decades and were bringing it to the forefront of peoples minds.
I like that it is making men stop and question their privilege a little bit.
Ms OBrien says the response from her customers has been positive, with one man even donating $50 (£30) to the cause.
She said: Theres been nothing but positivity from everyone, males and females.
But the reaction on social media has been mixed, with some praising while others are outraged.
One Twitter user said: This makes me sick. What the hell is wrong with these stupid women. Rules for men to enter?
While Jack Saba tweeted: Your cafe is sexist.
The extra money will be donated to the Elizabeth Morgan House which supports Aboriginal women and children.
It comes as a row broke out over the gender pay gap after the salaries of top BBC earners were revealed.
The broadcaster published a full list of the 96 people who earn more than £150,000 exposing a huge disparity in wages, with just one woman Claudia Winkleman featuring in its top ten best-paid stars.
Prime Minister Theresa May was among those to blast the figures and call for the Beeb to pay men and women the same.
She said: What has happened today is we have seen the way the BBC is paying women less for doing the same job as the men.
Humans CAN NOT be vegans. B-12 dependency. So either vegans cheat or they are taking b-12 supplements.
B-12 A interesting vitamin...
“Believe it or not, the richest sources of vitamin B12 are sewage, manure, soil, and mud, which harbor anaerobic bacteria that contain abundant amounts of this vitamin. Fortunately, we can turn elsewhere (whew!) for our dietary B12. The best food sources (in descending order of B12 concentration) are steamed clams, liver, braised beef, steamed mussels, steamed crab, and 100% fortified breakfast cereals. Lesser but still significant amounts are found in a variety of fish, meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products.”
Today there are lots of places to get B-12 and yes there are also supplements.
I get mine through supplements and fortified Soy Milk. I have been Vegan for about 6 months now and would test my blood results against any meat eater on the planet.
I think assembling a plan to make sure I get adequate daily B-12 is a small price to pay versus combating all of the Heart Clogging Fat Animal products that cause far greater damage to us humans.
Cheers!
I have a strange urge to go there for a cup of coffee. And then use the bathroom.
And then, accidentally, super glue the toilet seat in the upright position.
That’s nothing. Ladies night at most bars gives the drinks away and makes men pay for everything. Sexist!
No one there really thought about how this will backfire on them.
I laugh.
They are blatantly violating their own third rule. Twice.
They think they are so smart. It is extremely funny when stupid hypocrites think they are so much smarter than everyone else.
LOOKS LIKE A TERMINAL CASE OF “PENIS ENVY!!”
I was raised on meat, milk and eggs and biscuits made with lard, in fact everything was made with lard and my parents and grandparents ate the same way. Beginning the day with eggs fried in lard, pork sausage, ham or bacon and grits served with gravy, desserts were pies and cakes cooked with lard or sorghum molasses served over biscuits made with lard and plenty of milk always. Dinner was served at noon and was a huge meal with meat and more biscuits made with lard and vegetables often cooked with fat pork. Supper was a lighter meal, usually some black eyed peas or similar legumes with more milk and biscuits or corn bread cooked with lard, it may or may not have included meat.
My great grandfather, a confederate veteran, lived to be 79, his son who was my grandfather lived to be 86, my father died just before his 82nd birthday, my mother lived to be 78 and had one brother who lived to be over ninety and another brother who almost made 90. Not one of these died of clogged arteries, they all died of problems other than heart disease, in fact we seldom heard of anyone having heart trouble, it did happen but not nearly as often as today. Obesity did exist but it was exceptionally rare compared to the current era. My mother did have one brother who died of congestive heart failure which was called “heart dropsy” in the fifties, he had weighed as high as 525 lbs. but he only became obese after suffering a long bout with rheumatic fever in his late teen years. He STILL lived to be 53 years old.
If the theories espoused by vegans had any basis in reality I would not be here because my father and mother would have died before I was born. I am 73 and eat two or three eggs for breakfast nearly every day of my life. I invite you to try to keep up with me any day. I have probably consumed enough meat, milk, eggs etc. in my lifetime to fill a fleet of eighteen wheel trucks. I take no prescription medicine and my blood pressure three hours ago was 123 over 77 with a pulse of 73 following an hour and a half long hard workout at the gym.
Do they charge dark colored people more?
Do they make them stand in the back of the restaurant?
Which one’s the butch?
I’ll take the femi-nazi salad...
Tell that to the women's gyms that are being forced to accept tranny men.
My boss is a woman.
My boss’ boss is a woman.
My boss’ boss is a woman.
I can think of several women even higher up the chain of command at my company over the org chart.
This “pay gap” is bullstalin. After 50 years they need to get a new lie. They haven’t moved the football an inch if their claims are to be believed.
Left side.
.
A Vagina cafe’?
What man would even consider going there?
After the “ladies” are all talked out, they’ll be staring at the place across the street where all the men are.
A few snide remarks before a few of the girls head home to get pretty, park ‘round back and strut inside.
I’ll add to your story. I used to live in Kansas and I knew many farmers who would go down to the local diners (Mr. T’s or the Don Do Cafe!) and eat huge mounds of hash browns and eggs soaked with grease, then go out and work 12 hour days, and they all lived into their 80’s and 90’s.
My mom, on the other hand, was a life-long vegetarian, ate nothing but organic grains and legumes. She followed Adele Davis, Robert Pottenger, JI Rodale and Diet For A Small Planet.
Se was diagnosed with colon cancer that metastasized into liver cancer and she died nine months later.
My stepdad was the same way, never ate one single bit of meat in his life, died of Parkinson’s at 69 years old.
Ed
Thank you for sharing your story. :)
For a man aged 73 years and with this type of diet, I would say your genes play a crucial role. This is evident by you stating numerous relatives consuming the same high fat diet with similar results. Perhaps your genes can metabolize animal fat far better than the average population, similar to how Caucasians can metabolize alcohol more efficiently than Native Americans.
The reason I choose to drop the meat/dairy is mostly for digestion. Plant based food works wonderfully for me and I have so much more energy. I am 54 and I walk/jog 20 miles a week with a resting pulse rate in the low 50s. Blood pressure is 118/70, and like you NO prescriptions...
My ancestry is from Sicily and meat items were a once in a blue moon deal. I fair so much better with eggplant and broccoli than with birds, pigs or cows.
Peace to you and yours.
It’s pay day guys. Sue ‘em.
Funny how equal rights doesn’t apply here.
It will fail because there are only so many lesbians in the country.
