Suppressed M249 Meltdown Test
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 8/4/2017 | J Hines

So how many rounds can be fired continuously through a 5.56mm suppressor? Instead of using an AR why not use an M249 Light machine gun to quickly see the result. This is what this person is demonstrating in this fun gun video.

Is there a purpose to all this? Probably nothing, Here's what some are saying:

What we do know is that people (human behavior) are just amazed at the look of a fully glowing suppressor on an automatic machine gun. See the full suppressed M249 gun footage here.

When she gets chunks of metal in her face and arms, that won’t seem like such a great idea anymore.

Too fun! But I’d be wearing some ballistic protection, including tactical gloves and a full face shield. And a welder’s hat for the hair.

Her assistant gunner is absolutely worthless and kept letting the belt break or get twisted. I reckon he’s not seen enough WWII films and doesn’t have a clue where the Browning .30’s assistant gunner positions himself.

I’d liked to have seen that suppressor cut in half later to see how much wear that session had caused. The blast baffle in heavy-use suppressors usually is made from inconel, which is harder than Chinese math, and it needs to be because it’s what takes the brunt of the beating from the muzzle blast. In fact the ring glowing brightest (about one-third of the way up) has to be the (inconel?) blast baffle. All that heat reduces the baffle’s abrasion resistance and I’d be interested to see how it fared.

I enjoyed it.
(1) Nice eye candy firing the weapon.
(2) Nice to see gun components pushed to that level in real life. I doubt most can justify melting a barrel outside of real combat.
(3) Did not get the complaints of the posters: I love car racing of a specific kind, and pulling heavy objects of a specific kind, and you run what you brung till it glows and/or pops, or you get out of it cause you won :)
(4) As a capitalist, the waste of ammunition bothered me not one bit. They paid for it (or a sponsor), let’em burn it. I do hope they showered up after! They must have inhaled and been coated in quite a bit of lead dust and compounds. Face mask might have been a good investment.
(5) Accuracy is going to be questionable when the barrel and suppressor are that hot, why are the posters concerned?
(6) I have never heard of a hot chamber triggering a round, I don’t see the danger here. Unless the barrel collapses, and I don’t think they can get the heat that high anyway.

The complaints posted sounded like a bunch 12 year olds with no ammo budget, no hot girlfriend, and probably living in their parent’s basement, dreaming about playing with those guns.

Writer must have been in a similar category as well, since he/she chose the most angry and vindictive comments from the postings.
