I know that, for actors or someone on the stage, we were sometimes told to use a light "th" sound for words starting with an "s" to avoid the hissing sibilant sound. I never heard of the "sh" to avoid the sibilant in the middle of the word, but I guess it's possible.
That, however, doesn't explain Mooschelle's use ...
