The forum was slow all day yesterday and now it won't load the first page even though I've set the number to 20.
Is the bandwidth at maximum?
Super easy fix. Set to 20 messages per page. Go into account, click settings and select 20. Easy peasy. Less load on the servers. Much faster load time. No sidebar issues. The problem IMHO is everyone has their amps turned up to 11. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOO5S4vxi0o
I had to change my preferences from 250 threads/posts to 20.
It's getting ridiculous. This is a bare-bones website, not much different from when I joined in 2001. It should run flawlessly and at lightening speed.
That's not a fix. It's a workaround.

Slowest site I visit. Has been for months. Period. And I do professional research with the ‘net as a tool, so I know the tricks of speedy browsing.
I know people who run reliable message boards with lots of visitors who don’t make anywhere NEAR $300,000 a year so the problem can’t be donations. I wish the efficiency and reliability could be explained and linked to donations because then we could help. With the tech / $ so unclear, its harder to donate, and I’m sad about that.
I jut said virtually the same thing. We’re asking for transparency so that we feel our dollars will help keep FR running smoothly. They don’t, currently, and I don’t know why.
I find usually if it doesn’t pop right away I have to stop loading and reload and then it pops right up. A few times it has not come around on the second try.
I’ve had that on another machine I use but it doesn’t ever happen at home. Don’t know why.
It’s already been stated that a number of people have already done that to no avail. Myself included.

You and I are very much on the same page on this. And there are many technically talented people on the board willing to donate time, or there were the last time this sort of a discussion was really going.

Yes, the support in many ways is here by so many of us who love this place. We just need full transparency and a logical plan.
Frustrating. I was listening to Hannity's radio show the week before last and his assistant gave a shout out to FR over some story she read here. I thought, "Great! Drive some traffic back to this place!"

Meanwhile, Reddit's threads on /r/The_Donald/ average 200-400 posts per thread. Lately I've spending more time there, figuring out the place.
I definitely prefer Free Republic but Reddit works, dammit!

FreeRepublic could have been an economic powerhouse and JimRob as rich as Suckerberg. It does what Facebook does.
And it could have helped conservative candidates AND counter the liberal media even more
