The president of the country's largest labor union, Lily Eskelsen Garcia of the National Education Association, told delegates at her organization's annual gathering that they would not work with the Trump administration because the president and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos could not be trusted to do what is in the best interests of children.
Eskelsen Garcia just addressed the 96th NEA Representative Assembly meeting in Boston, accusing President Donald Trump of residing "at the dangerous intersection of arrogance and ignorance" and labeled DeVos as "the queen of for-profit privatization of public education." She said in part:
"Let me say this to all of you as clearly as I can, so that even if you disagree with me, you understand what is in my heart: I will not allow the National Education Association to be used by Donald Trump or Betsy DeVos. I do not trust their motives. I do not believe their alternative facts. I see no reason to assume they will do what is best for our students and their families. There will be no photo-op.
"We will find common ground with many Republicans and many Democrats on many issues. We will not find common ground with an administration that is cruel and callous to our children and their families. And I don't just judge them by their words; I judge them by their actions."(continued)

Competition will help cure their complacency. Monopolies are always complacent. This includes government monopolies and unions, which are basically monopolies.

I helped a local politician collect and tally citizens’ responses to a survey on many topics. Some were teachers. Only about 10% of them mentioned the children. They’re in their profession because they get summers off. They only have to work a few hours a day and get paid very well. There were many responses, but the children got short shrift.
I believe that President Trump and Ms Devoss honestly wish to improve the failing education system.
The union wants to ensure that union members convicted of crimes and “teachers” who are unable to teach keep their jobs, which is turns out, is to make certain there’s an ever-growing underclass of uneducated sheep that can be herded to the will of the leftists.

Who would trust “the motives” of the head of the teachers’ union? No one, that’s who.
The truth is DeVos will not work wit the NEA because it cannot be trusted to protect children. The goals of the Union are to protect the interests of its members, teacers and administrators. This is another union that should not exist. Its members are exclusively deep state employees.
What actions?
Screw the unions. Force the states to get them out of the picture if they want access to federal funds.

This woman is a mental case. She is screaming bear before she even enters the woods. She is advocating that Betsy DeVos will never proffer anything in the best interest of the children before she ever hears what Betsy has in mind.
No public funds, regardless of how small or insignificant, should ever be used to withhold union dues from public school teachers’ salaries. The union teachers can direct the union to debit their bank accounts monthly. Gov. Scott Walker forced this issue in Wisconsin and union membership declined. When many teachers felt they had a free choice, they dropped out of the union for their own personal reasons.
Agree totally! As an old public school teacher (age 76) after 43 years of teaching (retired 2006), I pray I will get to see the NEA demolished before the Lord takes me!

I hope the President picks up her gauntlet and soundly thrashes her and the union with it.
I think when you read her autobiographical details you get a better picture of her. She started out a widow with 2 children who worked as a lunch aide and went back to school got an education degree and got involved with the political side. She was recently elected as head of the NEA. She feels that she is the heroine of her story and there is only one story.
Her success is the only success and she needs to go up against the President and the secretary of education to prove she is powerful and won’t be cowed. As always the children, education, the return on education $ are totally unimportant because its all about the street cred of the NEA/and her personal worth.
