The Royal Albert Hall released new research today which proves the emotional health benefits that listening to live music has on our wellbeing. The study of 2,000 adults in the UK shows that two-thirds (69%) of Brits feel 'more stimulated' and 'happier' when listening to live music.

According to the survey, the British public are also ‘more engaged’ (68%) and ‘more sociable’ (59%) when live music is playing. Almost three quarters (73%) agree that ‘live music can make an event feel more special’.

I recall learning that Joe Bonamassa hoped to one day play live with Eric Clapton, at RAH.

And he did.

I bet Sony has a study that shows recorded music is best for wellbeing.

Bonamassa probably watched the Cream Farewell concert video (1968) at the Royal Albert Hall a whole bunch of times as a kid. ...like I did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEaZe7LWc-Y

I've found a compromise I think. I was gifted with an HDTV big screen TV, which I connected to my Bose audio system; I then started a DVD & Blu-ray collection of concerts, including a Royal Albert Hall performance by the Moody Blues.

Now, at 76, my chance of getting to RAH are slim, but curling up with a friend or inviting neighbors over is a pretty good substitute for live music, I've found.

The problem with this study is that, even if true, it does nothing about the real problem: cost. Live music is expensive. CDs are great because they make music accessible for the masses.

After spending a hundred or so for tickets, driving an hour to get to the theater, and going though the hassle of getting parked and finally seated, you’d better believe I’m going to say I’m happier, healthier and all those other things while listening to live music - anything else would be admitting I spent my time and money foolishly.....
