President Donald Trump spent the Father's Day weekend at Camp David, which has been a quiet getaway for presidents in the Maryland countryside. After spending weekends at his own luxury clubs, this was Trump's first weekend at the presidential retreat known for its rustic charm.
Trump also tweeted about the retreat, a 30-minute helicopter ride from White House, saying it was an honor to be there. The retreat is administered by the White House Military Office and includes a presidential office and living quarters, swimming pool, and meeting hall.

Trump usually spends weekends at the properties owned by him such as Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, and Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
During this trip, the president was also joined by first lady Melania Trump, their son Barron and Melania's parents. FLOTUS marked the occassion on Twitter and posted a picture of the cabins in the woods.

While Trump's predecessors were fond of the retreat in the Maryland mountains, the 45th president had earlier expressed his unwillingness regarding staying at Camp David for a long period of time. Right before taking the president's office, when asked if he planned to visit the wooded getaway, Trump told a German journalist: “Camp David is very rustic, it’s nice, you’d like it. You know how long you’d like it? For about 30 minutes," the Washington Post reported.
Starting with Franklin D. Roosevelt, 13 presidents have stayed in the retreat. It has several bedrooms, a small office, several fireplaces, a kitchen, and a large outdoor flagstone patio. There is also a heated swimming pool, hot tub, and a single golf hole with multiple tees, according to the White House website .
Former President Richard Nixon contributed to the retreat by building a swiming pool outside the Aspen Lodge, the presidential cabin. Nixon wanted a new pool located in front of the Aspen terrace. The 40 feet by 20 feet pool was heated so it could be used during the winter.
Camp David has also been the venue of many high-level presidential conferences. In 1959, at the height of the Cold War, President Dwight Eisenhower hosted Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev at Camp David. In Sept. 1978, through the intervention of President Jimmy Carter, the retreat was the site of a historic peace agreement (known as the Camp David Accords) reached between Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin. In May 2015, former President Barack Obama convened an international summit at Camp David with leaders from member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
There’s likely a good chance that Barron will want to spend more time there than just the occasional weekend. Particularly next (2018) summer after he’s had a chance to make new friends in his new school. What 11-year old boy doesn’t love running around in the woods?
I think it’s refreshing to have a Presidident who respects the office and says he’s “honored” to be at Camp David. It is an honor. Obama was so disrespectful of everything and everybody it was nauseating. A waste of space and oxygen.

My kid’s grew up in Hong Kong, a big city like New York; They’re afraid of the woods.
As long as they avoid the wolves, rabid raccoons & the trolls that live under the bridges the kids will have nothing to fear in the woods.

I spent two weeks at Girl Scout camp a stone’s throw away from Camp David in 1970. Two weeks in a tent that we put up, two to a tent, rain or shine. Made friends with scouts from neighboring states. Hiking. Animal track identification. Teaching younger scouts outdoor skills. Excellent memories. Wolf Rock. Cunningham Falls....
Especially when the Marines patrolling those woods love to show off their nifty gear. Night vision to show Barron and the grandchildren the deer and other night critters.
Trump won’t be able to spend much time there because he can’t get much work done there. Too much electronic surveillance planted there.
Not to mention the deer ticks carrying Lyme’s Disease.

Trump is not an outdoors guy except for golf. Maybe he will learn to tolerate it. Love it??? I doubt it
Most like it was TFL’ys idea. I bet it was hard for the Donald who is a workaholic to spend even a night there, even though he can work there.
The boy needs this, she needs it, and especially Donald needs it.

Here in the Midwest I have SEVERAL friends either succumb to the disease or have serious, debilitating side effects from LYME’S DISEASE. Best to take precaution.
No worries in those woods. 100% video coverage. A friend of mine was hiking the Appalachian Trail near Camp David. He stepped off the trail to take care of some business. While he was squatted down, he looked up and noticed the camera.

You say that like Barron is some typical 11 year old kid living in suburban setting catching frogs in the local creek and building tree forts....
I betcha he has lived a very sheltered life so far and those things like running around in the woods would seem foreign to him...
I do think he would enjoy it...once he tried...
