Trump attorney to file complaint against James Comey for leaking memo: Report
Washington Examiner ^ | June 9, 2017 | Madeleine Morgenstern

President Trump's attorney will file a complaint against former FBI Director James Comey for leaking his own memo to the press, according to a report Friday morning.

Comey admitted during his testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday that he directed a friend to leak his memo detailing his conversation with Trump in which he said Trump encouraged Comey to drop the FBI investigation into former national security adviser Mike Flynn.

According to CNN, Trump outside counsel Marc Kasowitz will file complaints against Comey with the Justice Department inspector general and with the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Trump reacted to Comey's admission Friday morning by tweeting "WOW."

It’s sad when the FBI director shows he knows how to get a special counsel if he manipulates the media. I wonder how long he’s been manipulating the media with his Columbia law professor friend.

Comey’s leak proves that he’s a political hack.

Probably just part of the bulldog posturing..and to try to destroy Comey’s cred. in the public eye.

trump and comey are going to carry grudges against each other. Comey won’t forget how he was fired and Trump won’t forget..well.. all of this

“Is it really a leak though? A private citizen sharing his written thoughts?”

That was an FBI record. Written by an on duty FBI guy on company time, using the only official method the FBI uses to record interviews. The written thoughts did not belong to him.

Good question. However you interpret it, or the timing of it, this sets a precedent that "any" government official in a private meeting with the president can take notes and release them to the public for whatever reasons. In this instance, it violates FBI policy at the very least.

Marc Kasowitz, outsider to DC.

It doesn’t have to be classified. That was an official FBI record/work product. There are plenty of laws that an agent cannot release such records to a friend intending that that friend pass them to a reporter.

It does not matter that he is not a govt employee now. You think a retired FBI agent can release all of hi written interview notes at will? No, they don’t own them.
Ask any scientist working in a government lab who owns what they invent. Ask any military man if he is free to speak of legally protected confidential matters as soon as he separates.

That was an FBI record he produced. And released to a friend.

Exactly and Mueller’s appointment stinks too. Seemingly out of the blue. I’d say the Deputy AG is part of the coup attempt. How did comey know the leak would cause the appointment and how did he know it would be Mueller?

If these after the fact memos were written to document behavior that could be used to charge the POTUS with obstruction of justice then leaking them should be tantamount to disqualifying them as evidence!

“...fire Mueller...he and Pajama Boy set up Mueller’s appointment...”

Yes - I said the same thing in another thread; and Comey was gloating about the set up yesterday during the testimony - sick!

Let’s hope the President has this done ASAP!!

The comment about him not being an employee now was made in reference to what is really going to happen to him.

They can’t fire him.

IIRC, FBI released hand written notes on Pat kennedy

-- I sent POTUS an email this morning encouraging him to fire Mueller since it appears he and Pajama Boy to set up Mueller's appointment ... --

Just my opinion, but I'd let Mueller do his thing for awhile. Firing him steps on Rosenstien's toes, and Rosenstein did a bang-up job of writing Comey up, specifically on handling/closing of the Hillary private server investigation.

-- ... let DOJ appoint a prosecutor to investigate this whole mess, top to bottom --

All that investigation can go on without a special counsel or prosecutor. To the extent that Sessions and Trump have a good handle on FBI direction, those investions can go on "under the radar," which has many advantages.

And POTUS obstructing justice is another of their fictions. He is the boss of the FBI. They are not independent of the President.
He could have called Comey in and said “the investigation into Flynn is over, and I have pardoned him”. Dershowitz pointed this out the other day.
Likewise, he can direct an investigation to be started.

The FBI is a minor bureau and that’s it. They have zero independence. They are not some internal affairs of the USA and not some check and balance, or watchdog over the presidency. It is long past time they were reigned in.

If the president does something improper, the Congress and Senate can impeach him. Nobody else has authority to investigate him. Although I know we don’t really live under the old constitution anymore. We are in an authoritarian globalist leaning oligarchy that at best tries to pretend it follows the old constitution.

I am not sure where you guys are getting the idea that FBI can’t release notes.

Comey was head of the FBI

FBI has been known to release notes.

It is within Comey’s purview

FBI does a lot of illegal things. And there are processes by which a record can become public. Giving it to your neighbor secretly ain’t one of them.

They can move for disbarment. They can prevent him from being qualified for another government position. And yes, he can probably be charged criminally. Police records have all kinds of legal protections and rules. Feds are even worse. Its a lead pipe cinch that he violated at least as many laws as Martha Stewart did. Not just policies, but laws.
