Other than a touch of dementia...which caused him to sound confused and not be able to best sell the pretty good point he was trying to make.
I suggested in another thread that he actually deserved credit for attempting to defend Trump by contrasting President Trump's treatment to Hillary's free pass. However, the senator was somewhat confused and didn't sound all that well. As a result, his argument came out weak.

You must have heard a different McCain. The hearing and Comey’s statements were about Russian influences and McCain was talking about Hillary’s emails... You could see the consternation on Comey’s face when he kept trying to steer McCain back to the subject...Couldn’t help but wonder what Outnumbered was going to cover if they got back on the air after the hearing was adjourned - what would Megan McCain think about her dad’s mumblings or would it not come up out of courtesy to his daughter but I don’t think it came on.

Yeah, in a backhanded kind of way. I understood what he was getting at, but it certainly was an oblique way to say it. It was clear that Comey was having trouble trying to process his commentary and respond.
